I may be wrong but most people have probably traded them in for a newer car rather than sell privately. Personally I'd want to get at least 10 grand for your car if its in good nick so I'd probably ask for 10,500-11,000 and let them knock me down a bit. Could be worth a bit less if its an import but I wouldn't tell the buyer if they didn't already know.
chopping it in is a good way to go, but the place I am buying from is not really into part-ex.
I usually want to get on with things and will price it keenly to move on. I don't think residuals on cars are ever very good, so I am mentally prepped for it. I can't see it going for much more than 9 privately.
Hence trying to find out what people had sold for and how long it took.
