Anyone Chipped Their 1.2

  Chocolate Bar™
i havent, purly because its not worth it lol.

I was considering a remap but it'll only give 5 bhp and i think 5% torque which is nowt on a 1.2. also costs around 300 quid. breather mods are the way forward :D

  Chocolate Bar™
hmmm yes it is. for a few cheap mods, you can make your car sound better, pull better and drive better. Not everyone can insure a fast car straight away, so this is a good way to make a slower car better to drive in the mean time.

i do agree a good set of coilovers are more important than engine mods to improve the look and handling of the car, however i would never say modding the engine is 'pointless'

Go for it Jay. Blaze a trial for others to follow. If your keeping the car for another year or so, go for it...

Have the fastest 1.2 going.

It's not worth Mod'in an RS...So on that basis is it really worth mod'in a 1.2?! lol

well i have got the upgraded breaks, full custom exhaust, IK, suspension, why not :) i still plan to have the car for another year. thats all i need to do.
probably take me few months to save up. lol

With all respect...

How much did the mods cost? How much extra to declare this on insurance?

What is the difference in insurance premium between a standard 1.2 and standard 1.6?

im paying 800 with all mods declared:)
mods cost me alot. the FK coilover suspension kit £445, alloys £720, full custom exhaust £320, breaks 200, IK £100,

fook it, i think ill do it.

Fair enough. I guess if you know what you're doing you can sale the mods on later or transfer them to your next Clio.

I think I'm just tight, so don't mod my cars.

Peace x

oh. lol its my 2nd car, and this is my first car ive modded, im sure ill get bored of it all someday. lol

no chance. lol

Out of interest are you talking about a Superchip type thing?

I guess with your custom mods a bespoke remap may be better?

modding a 1.2 will be a waste of time really.. you may think they look good with rims and sh!t but i think they look worse than standard.. a filter and exhaust wont give you anything worth writing home about and a bmx will still have the upper hand.

save your money, you've wasted 1000 pounds on it that could have gone towards a more powerful car or insuring a bigger engined car.. the biggest performance gains aren't from chips, filters etc.........but from buying a faster car!!!

i bought an astra 1.8 16v years ago £3500 and then wasted over sh1t loads of cash on it.. £700 kit, £300 painting & fitting, £80 delocked, £200 tints, £380 exhaust, £80 filter, £350 alarm, £150 lowering, £800 alloys, £1000+ stereo and subs etc, http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a213/gurnachild/DSCF0013.jpg

and what was the car worth when i was trying to sell it...........£2800 if that!

i've also done my fair share of wasting money under the bonnet believing the bull sh1t that people trying to sell stuff, tell you!.. do yourself a favour and spend the minimum then use the rest to get laid.. F**K i wish i'd spend all the money i'd wasted taking birds out and getting my knob wet.. i now waste all my money under the bonnet:eek: :banghead:

I see your point. But you could say that about any mods to anything. Mod a faster car, then you'll get some peeps saying whats the difference between 150mph and 180mph, you can't do either on the roads blah blah blah.

Again I say do it, if it gives you a stiffy, w**k whilst in the car. It too gets the knob wet.

Yeh, I agree.

I fancied putting the GTi engine in my Rallye and getting some dents removed, but it was cheaper to sale and buy my GTi, plus I got leather now to pull the chicks with.

^well i cant argue with that :)

what ever you put on the car make sure it can come off.. NO ONE wants a boy'd up car from some lad.. look at piston heads and auto trader to see all the lads motors sit there for months.. to get rid they have to drop the price...

standard cars sell....

a classic case of wasted money on a 1.2 was that clio on ebay with the 182 lump for sale at 7k+ who in their right mind would buy a clio 1.2 thats been cloned into a 182.. i believe the car being boken now and i'd hate to think about the amount of money the guys lost out on:quiet:

i dont like the word "chipped" if your talking about a superchips "chip" then dont bother, if your talking about an actual ECU Remap then yep id go for it, mine is getting done once the exhaust and sports cat go on.

and theres no point in modding a 1.2? yes there is, ill take the video cammera next time im racing my mates 140bhp starlet gtt in corners and prove my point! he pulls no problem on long straights but i cant even corner my fastest when hes in ftont of me! plus its limited to 112mph or something so i can pass him then too :p

  172 Exclusive... For Sale
Just spend your money and do what you want i say, cars aren't that much an investment anyway, you're gonna lose so you might as well have a little fun whilst you're at it.

Admittedly i'd stay away from buying an over-modded car but you're not modding to get your money back, just customising something for yourself.

1.2 ain't too bad, with a bit of work of effort you should be able to extract near 90bhp surely? A 106 Rallye S1 is 1.3 and gives out 100bhp...

  White Clio 200 Cup
i got told that a standard re-map will add maybe 5bhp onto it...so no point, but that you can get a custom re-map that will add up to 20/25 bhp, i got quoted £400 for this

  Black S2 106 Rallye LHD
What is power of the 1.2 as standard?

20bhp from a remap does seem a bit OTT.

The 1.3 8V Rallye does give 100bhp, but has a very good head/inlet design and only makes this power at 7250rpm

  Chocolate Bar™
superchips quote 5bhp and 5% torque on a 1.2 - so how he claims 20bhp on a 1.4 i dont know. that sort of gain is only going to happen from a diesel, or a well underpowered petrol like the ford zetec 2.0 engine.

im working on the assumption that when my cars 'finished' i can fit an engine, and start all over again. its only money at the end of the day. if you go and drink 5 pints then thats at least a tenner, so if you do that each night your easily going to waste 3,500 each year. which is roughly the same cost as an engine transplant :D god forbid if you smoke as well, as that wastes so much money its not even worth working out

  Black S2 106 Rallye LHD
I looked at the overview of tech specs of a 1.2 on Parkers website.

It is a 75bhp, insurance group 3, 47mpg car...

Surely this suggests that it is in on way a sporting Renault?

If you love bhp figures the 1.4 offers 98bhp and is about 1 insurance group higher, which will probably not even cost £50 swap to!

Just do whatever makes you happy I'd say.

I had two Clio 1.2s and put the usual on em, rims, sounds etc but never really tried to make it faster, they weren't that quick so just left my 1.2s for cruising in. But that was just me!! :D

To say you shouldn't try and get more power from it and just to get a faster car isn't always the solution. A lot of guys on here tune their RS Clios up where they could just buy a faster one but then again, thats part of the fun!!

On MeganeSport.net they are awaiting the first person to get their Megane too the 300bhp mark, they could just buy a Scooby and have an easy 300 but whats the fun in that??? lol

 at chipping a 1.2.

I was in a Manthey 911 GT3 yesterday. It really puts things into perspective. Like there really wouldn't be any point chipping my 182, let alone a 1.2.

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
well the one i was in cost 80 grand new, and had had £45,000 spent on it in modifications. Including an £8000 exhaust.

Those people slating others with 1.2 wanting to chip, stop bein party poopers! If these people want to, let them don't slate them....

Why do people mod minimoto's when they can buy the real thing = because they want to.
