anyone done a cam belt on a 172

  clio 172
anyone on here done one?
is it a b**ch and does the amount of room you have become an issue.
got a mate who is a mechanic who is going to do it but hasn't done one of these before?
just wondering what sort of problem were going to cross when doing it?
how long does it take? auto data says 6 hours so would you say this is correct?
thanks for your help in advance.

Don't think it's an engine out job but I believe you have to support the engine whist you remove the mount at the top so you can get access to the belt.....still going to be a squeeze though.

You dont need to take the engine out - make sure you use the crank locking pin tool when you change the belt

unless ur mate is very good i wouldnt let him touch the belts, lot of these engine have gone pop after the belt has been changed by a sport virgin

Doesn't matter what car you do the belt on....the principle is still the same and the consequences if you get it wrong are the same.

I personally would let a decent dealer/garage do it so they have the responsibility if it does f**k up as the work is guaranteed.

^^ cam belt work isnt normally guaranteed. if it is, if it does break, they'll say its because of something else, not there work....

If it's any good to you..I phoned a couple of Renault dealers last week to get my cambelt done on my 172 ph1. The first one quoted £350 all in, the second one quoted £300.

I chose the latter but when I picked the car up the manager wasn't impressed as I should have been charged £450..their loss!

I let the dealer do it to get a receipt fot the work done to add to the service history. I've done a 16 valver cambelt twice which was fairly easy but as in the post above and per the Dialogys you need the tools as mentioned.
