Sometimes it is, but you could have just said, "Going out still presents a risk, as you could break down or have an accident. If you need help, that's putting the people that help you at risk, and taking resources away from helping people who really need it. It's better to follow the rules and stay at home."

It would have had exactly the same effect and doesn't require words like "spastic". I know people are stressed and suffering from a bit of cabin fever, but maybe going for a walk would be a better approach than being rude to people on a car forum for no reason. Like I said on the main coronavirus thread, some people really need to take a step back before they have a nervous breakdown.

More people have to deliver it to the petrol stations.

Don’t waste it because people are in short supply for both.

Imagine if that tanker that had to deliver fuel every week to your local petrol station only had to come once every other week, leaving them free to deliver essential supplies with that truck for a week.

Still driving about 60 miles a day to work and back. A precision engineer in a factory so I can't work from home. Also the company is only letting people book two days max time off as holidays at the minute, and if you self isolate, non confirmed you don't get paid at all. But there is no tests available....

I actually think we might not shut at all. One of our customers is in Northern Italy, just outside of Milan and their factory is still trading as normal. Defence and Aerospace is classed as a essential industry in Italy.

I drive 15 miles to work to sell plumbing, heating and bathrooms. Our company are also supplying vital goods to hospitals and supermarkets so we all have to go in. Plus we supply heating spares to keep people's heating and hot water going. The A12 is still busy but it's miles better than normal. I'm off until Wednesday so I'm pulling late ones in my garage working on my mk2 classic mini cooper.

Ive cancelled the clio's insurance as its a second car. Once the garage is tidy im taking the engine out to do a number of jobs that dont really need doing.

Re-do timing
Fix leak from VVT solenoid
Replace speedo sensor
Swap power steering pump
Fit oil temp gauge
Drill out a bolt that snapped the last time i took m engine out

The (dodgy?) modelling that Imperial College has done predicted 250k deaths in the worst case scenario, which was then reduced to about 25k IIRC, and I think has now been reduced again to about 6k.

And it's not clear whether CV19 is the cause of death or just present at death. If the latter, it is arguably not that different to the annual winter flu outbreaks that to a greater or lesser degree combine with existing conditions to cause increased mortality in the elderly, an event which does not trigger the shutdown of the entire economy and seems to be accepted by the general public as 'a normal winter'. If up to 50k elderly die from the flu in a 'bad' year and we do nothing about it, and CV19 results in the loss of life of under half that figure but we destroy the economy, there would seem to be a breakdown of logic!

How does cancelling work out, I've been thinking the same with mine as I've just sorn it in these financially uncertain times. I'm with Greenlight on a mirrored no claims policy.

I worry it'll be the other way around, and people would point to the lower deaths and say "we worried over nothing". Same thing happened with Y2K, i.e. the only reason it wasn't carnage is because of extraordinary efforts.

Yes you could well be right. I can just see a massive fall-out and the whole thing becoming political if things don't turn out to be so bad.

It made sense for me as i'd let my policy renew at a silly price. Also they let me off the cancellation fee which was a bonus. So in 3 months i'll re-insure the car at nearly half the price.

Few weeks. It’ll still be usable after but the octane rating will have dropped.

Not sure if it’s the same for sealed containers, theoretically the ethanol won’t be able to boil off.

Whilst out to my daily exercise (cycle) combined with collection of food supplies I came across a q7 broken down on a round about.

Two police cars sped to it in blue lights. To assist the driver try in to push his elderly 2.5 tonne truck.

I am sure he did not plan on breaking down when he left home.
