Anyone got a Willy gearbox in bits

Right, this is a bit technical. Im hoping someone out there works for Renault and can find this out for me. Im trying to help Kelly sort out the gearbox in her Williams.

The gearbox code for the Williams I am told is JC5014.

My local Renault dealer only has info describing every available gear for the type of gearbox JC5xxx. I know that the JC5 gearbox was only fitted to petrol models around 1995. But for each gear, ie 1st to 5th, I have been given a sheet showing nine different options for each gear, coded A to I.

Does anyone know what gear (A-I) should correspond to each gear 1st-5th?

Apparently when you dismantle a JC5 gearbox, each gear has the letter A-I stamped on it.

Please can anyone help? Wed be immensely grateful if anyone can tell us....

have you tried ringing a transmission specialist that rebuilds boxes

if they dont know but if there helpful enough im sure theyd be able to put u on to some1 who can find out

dont know any off hand though sorry

adi

Unfortunately Im involved in a heated argument with my transmission specialist already, and need the info to prove that the useless b******s have built us a 16v gearbox instead of the close-ratio Williams box we asked for!!

But, maybe I can ring OTHER transmission specialists and ask....?! Hmmm

Thanks for replying though Adi, that would normally be a sh*t hot idea! :)

You need to remove the casing from the gearbox and look at the cogs inside. Each gear has two cogs, you need two to get a ratio, we need to know how many teeth each cog has!

Thanks for the replies guys, Im starting to feel a little less "up the creek without a paddle"!

ok here is what is in JC5014 - original williams box:

main shaft - 1st gear - 34 cogs
2nd - 41
3rd - 37
4th - 35

on the primary shaft:
5th - 39

this is renault info... i mean original renault service computer programme
dont know how many of the cogs, are on the primary shaft for each gear...

The only line which has those numbers in it is D.

1st = 11-34

2nd = 22-41

3rd = 28-37

4th = 34-35

5th = 39-31

This has to be it! My friend, I owe you a beer :D
