Anyone had a clio chipped and not told their insurance?

As Im under 25, Ive been told I cant make any mods to my car :(

But Ive read a few times on here that ecu chipping is very hard to detect. Has anyone had their car chipped and not told their insurance?

Also, is chipping/remapping worth it for the price? The thing I dont understand about chipping is that if its so good and increases power, and sometimes improves mpg, why doesnt it come like that out of the factory?!

Thanks! :)

the reason why it doesnt come out the factory like it mate is because manufacturers basically have to put tolerances in for different countries, different fuels etc, and remapping just makes twaeks to improve things

the only time you will lose out is in an accident mate, iv seen some companies strip cars down to the last nut and bolt, others not to blink an eye so luck of the draw i suppose

while on the subject i had my car remapped/chipped and now i rev to 8000 rpm and over is this normal??

LOL! I should also ask to the people who have had theirs chipped- Is a noticable difference and would you recommend it?
And, I know its sad to ask, but have you noticed a change in the fuel economy?

how can you spen all that and if you do have a claim you can not only loose it all, your car but if you hit and injure someone your insurance wont pay for it, you will have to!

asking for trouble imo

and revving to 8000 and over WILL kill your car, clio's lifters wont take that substaned rpm

Its very easy to detect and with how widespread it is these days I wouldn't put it past insurance companies checking cars for remaps tbh. Especially with diesels and fi cars where the gains are so easy to accomplish.

Dont think theyd be so inclined to check on a an NA car but as 30HP onwards++ can be achieved from a turbo they may look into that

Personally I'd never declare anything which is stupid but at the end of the day its your decision. (saying that my car atm is standard anyway! = I dont really "mod" cars anyway)

it all depends on wether your willing to take the chance that they might not pay out if it is detected

There's many on here who've performed the said modification and certainly haven't told the insurance company.

You've gotta weigh up whether it's worth it.Nine out ten say's it is...then again there's always that slim chance of things going pear shaped.

But thats where "sods law" steps in, you can guarentee the rest of the car will be like a badly BBQ'd sausage and the ecu will be untouched!
