Anyone had GDI tuning on a 172?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me whether it's worth having it done? And if anyone has had it done, what sort of gains could I expect? Does it make much difference?

Cheers

TheJesus has a 220+bhp mk1 on TB's that GDI did

Pacey (sorry can't remember his new username) had the 1500 jobby and didn't get the greatest of results but thats probably down to the inconsistency of Renault's manufacturing

there are a million posts on this
paceys username is S77 CCP iirc, he was over the moon with his car, the bhp figures were just under 200bhp but he said the over all drive and the gains through the range were outstanding.
My car is going in for the same cams package soon

Nice one Taylor. I'm thinking about saving some coin and getting it done!! I will PM pacey and see what he says. I just want a little more pull through the rev range, 1500 sounds a lot but you could spend that kinda money on a normal remap, exhaust system and induction kit which would probably only give you about an extra 12bhp

Chris K who originally had the work done on mine had ITB's and the works done by Andy @ GDI, I have just inherrited it and had it tweaked considerably since. Can't fault it, it's smoother than a normal 172, easier to drive (according to the missus) and blows them into the weeds and even has a smoother power delivery due to not retaining the all or nothingness factor of the stock 172's. It's deceiptively fast as Laura found out toying with a Cup on the M6 ;)

I've heard your car is veeeery quick!! Can't quite afford throttle bodies, so I would go for the £1550 package!! Need to save some coinage and get it booked me thinks!!

Aye, it's a bit of a beast, I absolutely love it :)

Get the pennies saved and get it booked in, you wont be disappointed mate!

I'm also sure you will have about 3-4 PM's off 'other' tuners offering products, be wary all I'll say is that changing some oil filters and spark plugs hardly constitutes as tuning so be careful.

As for Stoddie, he's the minority and the only person unhappy with the work... but ask him what power his car is making then point him to the door

lol didn't see that!

maybe i let it run too long? lol it was too funny though!

not at all Seb, had to let it run for the sheer comedy value :D

Like Dash says, it's inevitable it would open up again, some people dont let things drop... nor do their lovers let things drop... ironic half the people in that thread are only talking shite from someone else's experience though and jumping on the bandwagon, as none are qualified tuners or mechanics... something also interesting about the geographical nature of where they are based... odd ;)

back on topic.

Yes ive had the 200bhp upgrade done, the kit should make around 200bhp but obviously a 172 is a little down on power to start with, mine makes just under 200 but should make just over 200bhp when some other mods have been done. But if you really want a quick cliio then TB's are the only way to go. my Clio is much quicker than a 182, but Jons car just makes mine look like is been driven with the handbrake on!

At the end of the day, its your cash. Do with it what you want.

Laugh all you want, Seb. At the end of the day if people keep belittling Stoddie's experience then scores will be settled.

If we can all play nice between now and FCS then things might get back to a more even footing.

lol.jus read this...my personal opinion....for what its worth.

if u want a job doing right, do it yerself. tbh im not overly impressed with any of the so called 'tuners' attempts to make a quick car. as they well know lol

a guy building an engine on the back street will have a faster car....proven time and time again...;)

as for the membership....lol....iv been on this site since it very first started up. used to be a member, but was pointless really, the discounts it gave were less than the discounts i could already get, and no real incentive to become a member in any other way.

pmsl, all this scores will be settled bull s**t is hilarious! :clown:

I iz gonna be bringin da boyz down n s**t, dey will b packin heat too byatches  what a strap on

end of the day I believe the thread starter asked about people who have been to GDI and had work done, not my mate of a mate's cousin's, uncle's room mate said...

If Stoddie wants to come on and say his bit then fair enough, but I've had work done to the highest standard everytime I have been and don't have anything negative to say whatsoever and considering all the comments about how mine will blow up... well, news flash, over 12k since conversion and compression is 196 on each cyliner... they are 200 as new, that on an engine running more power, so make of that what you will...

lol, well it's not a popularity contest despite Weeman's "please like me!" desperation posts.

Speaking of the Willy I do miss that car... wonder if the new owner ever got it finished... :dapprove:

I have used GDI in the past and decided not to use them again as I was unhappy with their level of service. Dont think they are all as good as you seem to make out they are.

Well, each to their own, to be honest Andy's always been upfront about what to expect and what he's hoping to achieve, so my expectations are always managed. Not only that but the attention to detail I cannot fault. 95% of people will be happy, the other 5% wont, c'est la vie... I've been to other Clio tuners, spent a fortune and not even had all the parts or the work finished despite chasing it constantly, yet other people rave about said individual based on an oil and spark plug change...

  M2 Competition
Havnt had tuning done at gdi as such, but a new brake set up fitted, and couldnt fault andy's workmanship/ customer service/ helpfulness.

Car will be going back there again.
