Anyone here had a 172 and starlet!!

  172
Just curious as they're the 2 cars I was torn between just wondering if anyone's had both and what's quicker, more reliable etc obviously Iv opted for a phase 1 but nice to no only off putting thing with the Clio is seems expensive to mod with not much 2nd hand mods about.

Cheers for looking will

I would feel a lot safer in the Clio. I often see a black one around my way, it goes well in a straight line, but can't keep up with me in the twistys.

Iv heard the clios are amazing In The twisties. Also when you say goes well in a straight line would you say as quick as you or quicker and is yours standard. Cheers again will

It was about the same, maybe slighty quicker ( I think it's had some engine work done) I would like to have a play with 'said' starlet now, as my clio is now completely stripped out, no engine mods as such.

Had both a Glanza and 172.

172 is a much better car. Interior is utter drab in the starlets (mid 90's jap) it makes the Clio fairly luxurious lol!

172 Handles better out the box, faster out the box, cheaper to maintain and buy spares for and is alot more refined.

200bhp out of a glanza isnt as easy as people will try make out, IIRC a hybrid turbo is required + management etc etc...before you know it you've spent £1000's on a 200bhp 1.3 Hatchback that doesnt handle and has seats like ironing boards.

I've had a glanza and a 182. My glanza was 230bhp so naturally quicker but it'd had alot of money spent on it. I'd chose the Clio every time to be honest.

Clio is a better car in every way other than the Starlet being a bit easier to get more power out of. Then again it's slower as standard than the Clio anyway.

although this a clio site u guys seem pretty genuine not like other site complete fanboys and seems as though i picked a right choice in a ph1 clio :)

I have had 2 Glanza's and now I'm buying a Clio. I can't fault the japs for their engines they are bullet proof and 200bhp is very easy on one irregardless of what people say. My last one was 260hp and the one before was 190hp. The Clio handles better out of the box, the standard shocks on a V are w**k. The V will also sting you for insurance it being an import. However nothing beats boost and I would not hesitate getting another however my rs200 is my new company car. You can buy a decent specc'd V for cheap these days that will kill a 172. But if you are to buy one, let the previous owner spend the money making it handle as well as a 172 etc. to make a Glanza's realistically comparable to a 172 handling wise, you are looking at at least new shocks and springs or coilovers, a rear arb and maybe a front one aswell. An anti lift kit, panhard rod and a few other bits. But at the end of the day they are both great cars, depends what you want really.

I agree about the interiors aswell.

The best car in standard form is probably the 172.

I've had both, mine was 190bhp and was a animal. Mine had recaro seats witch were very commfy, I wiuldnt call them dated with power fold mirrors ext,

They don't handle no was near as good as the clios.

But they are reliable,

I prefer my clio as I like to be able to courner well with speed,

Ellz
