I was hoping that a suspension upgrade, remove the gash stickers, side strips and change the CAF and it would be sweet as..

Just thought I would ask if anyone knew anything about it though before I jump in head first :)

Yeah...those stickers are pretty bad aren't they lol

Spec looks good though...must have costed a fair bit to put together. I'd also be interested in finding out where all the engine work has been done.

Any idea where please Rich ?? :)

You posted it Maz. It was in some topic you started about a track car wanted I couldn't find the original post I think Giles quoted your post though.

I wouldn't buy it Gaz suspension for a starter.

Thats not a racer Cup cage. Infact whey have they not used the connecitng bar on the cage for the harness? Why use that stupid rear clip?

Why does it have a brake bias valve its got abs so no need or point.

How about thiese
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=121
Thats Mondeo is stunning £8k would be a quick car make it road legal and it would be a right laught.

Or the 205 here
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=119
Or the Porche on page 2 looks nice.
Or the AE86 and you'd have load of people chatting to you about it wanting a driv/ride.
Or the orange Metro 1.8 you can buy them with mot and tax for £4k or so there a place which builds and sells them as new there quite impressive. (page 3)

No Rich is right someone posted this in ebay section a while ago, so it has been for sale for a while as Adam said

The cage isn't a full race cage the proper ones are a maze of pipes I'm trying to find a picture.

The brake Bias valves is so you can adjust the pressure the rear brakes get on track you can adjust your braking for more or less rear end which will affect the car when braking. Nun ABS cars (172 cup excepted) have brake bias type things on the rear axle so the rear don't brake as hard when the backs loaded up a brake bias on a race car etc is an internally adjustable cabin one.

What about a normal phase 1 172 or a Cup ideal for track days and a few k cheaper than your car.

Cheers for that Edde, why would he say thats what the cage is when it isn't ??

What should I ask him about the bias valves, why do you think he has fitted them ??

I want a track ready car + a daily drive which selling my car will pay for :)

I'm not sure doesn't look like a proper Cup racer cage to me. Cup cages have loads of metal. I'll have another loook for a picture.

No idea why its fitted best ask the owner.

Buy a decient track day car and a cheap second hand car for ifyou have trouble with the track car. Cars get a hmerring on track days so get good one.

^^ the track car is an addition to my daily drive not coming out of the money from my car sale..

Not sure why he would say its a cup cage if it isn't .. not that I know what one looks like ..

So are you saying he has fitted the valves in addition to the ones that were already there ??

^^are you on msn edde??

Nope going to go on a second (should have gone 10 minutes ago) just waiting for a download to finish.

Maz definatly get a RWD kit car for track days there lighter for a start a 172 with tralier is say 1.3 tones at best (900kg for the car if realy stripped out no cage plus 400 for a light trailer) more likly your looking 1 tone for the car with a cage and 600kg for a trailer at best since most drivers licences won't ley you drive and tow more than 3.5 tones gross weight and the trailer has to weight less than the curbe weight of the car you migh end up with a proble,. try find a 1.3 ton car which can take 3 tones easily. You have to account for the fact say 1 passenger so that 200KG in people weight a spare set of tyres tools etc thats 100kg easy so thats
1.5 tones of car
1.5 tones of trailer
300kg of extras

Hum only 200KG of max weight you ideal want a car much heavier than the trailer a 172 isn't light for starters.

I used my parents Suburu for towing my clio a few time and its annoying to deal with the extra weight etc also fuel economy isn't great so long drives are a pain.

that is 100% a cup racer roll cage, the pics arronc posted are not of a cup racer! (its a clio, but thats an enduro clio racer, rally spec cage)

R-sport do 2 different cages

cup racer = 1000euro
rally = 2500 euro (the one in the pic by arronc is this)

trust me on this!

the car Maz is loking at is a converted road car, it was NEVER a cup racer, just to clarify!

TBH I didn't know there were legalities about towing etc, it will be towed on a 2.4L V6 VW, do you think that will be a problem ??

I guess by posting this thread I was looking for advice as to if I should go ahead and buy this car or should continue looking.

There is a maximum weight you can tow which depends on the car doing the towing. It should be in the car's handbook if you've got it. There is also a limit on the amount the trailor itself can carry which depends whether it's braked/unbraked.

By the way, if you passed your driving test after 1st Jan 1997 I think you have to do an additional test to tow stuff over 750kg.
