Anyone know what Renault charge for *just* a cambelt change, literally nothing else

I know my local Renaultsport specialist (Engine Dynamics) charge £300... just wondering what Renault charge themselves as it might be going in there for something else shortly, thanks.

Their fixed price servicing was more than that and not applicable to sports so it's more like £500-600. They wanted £400 just for my dci

Really? Wow... okay. Obviously by *just* I mean without aux belt & tensioner etc. but fair enough!

No one in their right mind will do that for you as you can't legally warrant a job like that.

The way you say it is as if £300 is a lot.

the minimum you will get away with with renault is probably Cambelt kit + aux belt only.

I'm not saying it's a lot, I'm just wondering the difference :) no need to get het up about it!

There was a new aux belt put on my car only 10k miles/2 years ago so no need for a new one of those... Engine Dynamics it is!

Renault won't do you just a cambelt kit as the aux belt kit has to be changed once removed as per repair manual. If they did do just a cambelt they would make you sign to say that there is no warranty on the work and parts whatsoever.

Aux belt is £65 iirc, mental not to do it really at that price.

Yup 5 years or 36k miles but I only do 5k miles a year so would take me another 5 years to get to that point! Definitely won't have the car by then :)

Once its been removed it should be replaced, if it was only a few months old then maybe.

Is it worth saving £50 ish quid when it may fail and end up smashing your engine to bits and you wont have a leg to stand on???

My aux belt kit has done 1500 miles and only been on my car for 8 months, ive taken it off to do some work on my car and at the least ill be fitting a new belt but may even buy a new aux belt kit.

If you can't afford the car maybe you should sell it and buy something alot cheaper that you can afford to run.

Incorrect.

Aux belt is 5 years/36k miles...

Cambelt is 5 years/72k miles...

:)

Jesus, you are rather special.

Aux belt kit is 3yrs / 36k miles.

Cambelt kit is 5yrs / 72k miles.

TBH I've seen auxiliary tensioners fail in less time / miles as well.

Nobody in their right mind would fit a cambelt kit only when the auxbelt has to come off, especially when it's already 2yrs old.

It is 36k or 3yrs on the aux drivebelt kit service although I personally say 2yrs (the 3rd being on the belt change) because when they go wrong (Due to incorrect belt tension) the belt goes in to the lower crank sprocket and trashes your engine (normally)

Clio 2.0 16V RENAULT Sport: every 36 000 miles (60 000 km) or 5 years.

Check the date of that print because RenaultNET says different (that's the thing which dealers use btw)

Okay if it is genuinely every 3 years then of course I'll get it changed, I'm just not in the business of spending out money 3 years before it's needed! Even though... just checked with Engine Dynamics and they're saying no it is 5 years! Or 36k miles. Wow, much confusion.

Out of interest, how often would you say the change is needed for dephaser pulley/water pump/coolant. Can anyone explain where the water pump is and exactly what it does? Cheers.

Alfa used to say there timing belts were every 10yrs. Then it became 5yrs and then 3yrs.

The book says 5yrs so take it literally if you like. We say otherwise because we don't like customers engines failing.

I remember the 147 2.0 selespeed which was every 36k or 3 years for the cambelt...and some weren't even lasting that long. At the end of the day, for the price of the aux belt change you might as well do it as it the aux belt goes, then your cambelt may take a beating and fail. I personally wouldn't want that as it will be a heap more expensive to slam the door after the horse has bolted than being proactive. Look at the 12k oil change intervals...a lot of people do them more frequently, are they at fault?

My Megane III GT is on 8k/12 month intervals now after I reprogrammed the service clocks because I feel 18k/24 months is just too long for a turbocharged vehicle to be running on the same oil.

The sister - in - law has a 1.6TDCi Fusion that's sat outside my workshop pending the replacement of the entire oil supply, oil filtration and turbo due to following Fords "guide"

On a similar note, I believe my works Trafic (2.0 DCi) is 25k service intervals, that's too long IMO, moreso due to the weight and the ragging they get. Think we're doing it every 12k, I've forgotten.
