i did the other day used a nikon fit one... its ok... yes heavy but at 500mm you do get distortion... was shot on a nikon d2x.

Take a look at these...

Lots of nice looking stuff in the thumbnails, but many are very soft when viewed a bit larger. Unless you really need that kind of reach I would stay clear personally.

Having said that I'm a complete 'fast-lens *****' now, having picked my Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-S up for £500 I could never go back to a slower lens, the quality is just unbelievable. Have you considered the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM? Reach won't be there but quality will be on a completely different level. http://www.flickr.com/groups/sigma70-200mm/pool/

Also, £430?! Where is that cheap?

most of these were taken with one

its bloody heavy, slow and takes loads of battery power.

Also freaks out sometimes not being able to zoom because the motor is straining, its just so big and heavy.

FOr a single lens to be able to shoot that day though for in the pits and then from the grandstand it was perfect, such a good range etc.

My neck and arm did kill though from using it and carrying it around and i got some funny looks with it fully extended in the grandstand lol.

remember there's no such thing as one lens for all occasions either mike, 50-500 may seem good but it will have misgivings
