Anyone use "Word Press" for blogs?

I can't figure out how to put a "excerpt" in my posts so it can be displayed as the "description" on the rss feed to a scroller. I've got the "title" and "date" fine but no "description." My scroller works fine when I link to another RSS feed e.g. the BBC News one.

Anyone help or offer a better blog program (for free) that'll do the trick?
