Apple have nerfed my eject button!

  Fiesta ST
After todays mac update 10.4.9 (PPC) my DVD tray now doesn't eject when I press the eject button! u have to push and hold it.

What a strange thing to change (happened on all 4 of our macs).

Just thought i'd share and see anyone with this odd change?

i like it more - i always accidentally hit it and always pops open :)

i dont put enough cd's in and out for it to become annoying having to hold it down all the time :)

Eject isn't instant anymore.. but comes on after about half a second - as in, you can't knock it anymore, but if you mean to press it, it ejects.

That's on a Macbook Pro

It's on purpose, because it's f**king annoying on a laptop when you catch it when you hit backspace and it ejects the cd.

I and many other laptop owners are rejoicing at this new feature. Big thumbs up! :)

Leopard soon.

June I'd imagine, unless you're a developer (like moi) or a dodgy geezer and you could have it now.

Can't see it before then and as they still haven't released the "secret features" into the wild for bug reports. If rumours are true and the finder is going to be replaced, then they're going to have their work cut out getting a stable release out by june.

On the bright side, as we've hit .9 (and they've not gone past that with previous major releases, only security updates), I'm guessing that leopard just got a whole lot more of the OS X team devoted to it.

Just ran the update on my new MacPro here at work, just means you have to hold it in now. Everything else seems fine regards to the update - shame it is running like a dogpoo still in other areas, super fast at some things, refuses to do other simple tasks that rasterize and A4 doc at 72dpi in CS2 saying it has not enough RAM :( (still CS looks pretty on a 30 inch Cimema Display now!)

As Snoop says 10.4.9 will be spot for laptops - as I am always catching the eject key on my MacBook Pro when I dont want to.

10.5 in a few weeks now going by past OS X update timings?

That's because it's running under rosetta, that's not really Apples or OS X's fault, blame adobe for using Codewarrior and not porting their code base to X Code sooner.

Yep. I thought it was brilliant when I installed it this morning!

I seriously doubt this, I expect that it'll be released or the release date revealed at WWDC this year, I don't see how they can possibly finish it up to a release state any sooner, unless the secret features turn out to be nothing more than a new set of icons!

10.4 was released about a after 10.3.9 and 10.3 about the same after 10.2.9 IIRC. It won't be long.

The Performance of the MacPro 2 x 2.66 with 2 gb Ram is shocking though.
Failing to do tasks that the old G4 450 DP I have sat next to it on the desk can due to lack of RAM when it had double what is in the G4 is TBH very very shite.

How can I get work done when I can't even do basic tasks! Roll on CS3....

I know. But apple were seeding complete versions of panther/tiger to developers for a long time prior to its release.

The last major update to tiger (10.4.9) has been seeding to developers for 3 months before it was considered worthy enough for release.

Apple have yet to seed a complete version of Leopard publically to developers, so unless all the new features are free from issues, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Stranger things have happened and as much as I'd like it to be released in 2 weeks, I just can't see it happening! :dapprove:

Myself being a new Apple user, when they do release Leopard do you have any idea on what the upgrade cost will be? Will there be different levels of upgrade as per vista or just one?

Once they give a release date, all machines sold from that point will be able to upgrade to Leopard for free.

Otherwise it'll likely be somewhere in the region of £90 to upgrade (providing there are no price hikes this time around). From memory, it was cheaper on amazon than it was from the apple store.

There's just one version of OS X for consumers (there is OS X server, but you don't want that!) so no half baked, cut down stripped versions to confuse you!

LOL more like tweaks and Improvements. Still so much more user friendly and stable compared to Windows IMO

I work day in day out fixing Windows, 95% of problems with Macs are hardware or user error!

Thing is - it doesn't even mention the eject button delay in the patch notes (unless i'm blind).

so its a ninja nerf!

I've lost seconds of production now over the year. :p
