Apple TV Remote

So I've lost the remote, No drama I'll download the app.

Problem is I've not used it in years so have a different Internet provider and router so the app won't control it.

Anyway of making it so I can use my Apple TV?

Plug it directly into your router with a cat 5/6 cable, your phone should pick it up as a remote-able device then.

I thought that may be the only way around it.

TV is in the lounge mounted to the wall ans the router is in the dining room, Only have a short ethernet cable.
