are 182 heads ported as standard

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
I changed my inlets on my 182 at the weekend and got a shock when I looked at the inlet ports. Is this normal as I've not heard anything mentioned on here before.

Apologies for the mobile phone pic.

I know they like to ruff it up a little to get a better air / fuel mix but not expecting this

That's totally normal. It's a mass manufactured unit that is then hit with a dose of CNC work for a better / more repeatable finish.

Looks fine to me for what's expected of it. Looks worse than it probably is if you run a finger over it. Smooth it out if you like it will probably make very little difference. It's port shape, size, valve seat angles, shrouding etc you need to worry about. Finish is at the end of the list. Last head porting site i looked at that had figures was only claiming a 7% increase on the inlet side with a full working on standard valves so it can't be that bad. Bad heads are closer to 20% if the design isn't complete and utter crap. It did look "pretty" though.
