Hello all,
I’m new to Cliosport, but I’m sure like all on here, I’m a petrolhead, so been on several forums. My latest purchase has brought me here and as I like to tinker with my cars (far from a mechanic), it is handy to have like minded people who know these cars and their little quirks. It had already been helpful with regards a brake pedal switch adjustment.
To try to keep this brief, and fail miserably, I’ve liked the little Clio’s from my late teens/early 20’s. A mate had an artic blue one from around 2007, until about 2015, and it was always great craic to drive. He offered me it incredibly cheap back in 2015, but I’d other priorities and had to pass. They became my target for several years and prices began to risd, and when this one was offered, I barely hesitated to get it bought. It was a local car to me and I’d followed his threads, and always admired how tidy it was, and how meticulous it had been maintained. It has been bought as a weekend toy, but also to use on track.
To give some background, I’d been doing track days for many years, but not had anything I’d wish to take on track since 2016. I’d kept a keen eye on something box ready, that could do both weekend and track days, but as is the way in life, something always stunted a purchase.
Onto the car, it’s 2004 in Artic Blue. The previous owner must take credit for his meticulous ownership, upkeep and work completed. It has gone through a very thorough overhaul in regards to subframe and suspension components, including being completely polybushed. It is currently sitting on Turini’s, has 116k miles, running a Ktec exhaust and induction kit, and Cooksport springs. The car is not perfect, but at 20yrs old, it’s in fantastic condition. Plus, if it was perfect, I’d not be so keen to use it on track.
The plans are simple really, I plan to keep it as road legal and as factory as possible. I’ve two young boys, so hope to take them out for weekend blasts, but also do a handful of trackdays each year. It wont become a dedicated track car, but I plan some minor improvements to allow it to be more useable on track.
Since I purchased the car, I’ve had a steering wheel retrim, new brake caliper, ktec flexi’s and upgraded brake fluid.
Future plans are some better tyres, I’m toying with a second set of wheels with some road legal track tyres, but we’ll see whats available.
Anyway, enough chat, have some pics.
I plan to keep the thread updated more for my own records, so it wont see any real big changes.
Some boring extra info, I started track days in my dad’s mk2 golf, then used my Fabia VRS, and finally my ST. I sold the ST for an RS in 2016, and I’d too much money invested (read scared) in the RS to track it. The itch had always been there and I was keen to get back into it. So I look forward to getting this on track. In the 3 months I’ve owned it, it has been immense fun, a real step back into those early yrs of driving, so basic but so much fun. A real hoot to drive. Very different from everything else I have.
Some old pics.
The clio joins the RS, along with my daily, a black edition S4. I’ve a mk1 MX5 too which is not pictured and it will likely be for sale, as it’s difficult to use as a family of 4.
I like this picture as its 2l, 2.5l and 3l, 4,5 & 6 cylinders, then n/a, turbocharged and supercharged,
Thanks for reading.
