As promised, videos of my engine running for your opinions on possible dephaser sound

Here the the video I said I would post in my previous thread here. There are 3 in total:

1. Video of the engine starting when cold. At the beginning, my throttle body can be heard making a noise to, anyone elses sound like that?!

2. Engine running at medium temperature. The video goes black for a bit in this when i put the phone down to rev the engine a bit.

3. Engine running at normal temperature...


So, is it still good value for money or is the engine on the way out?!

Can someone with a healthy engine post some videos for comparison, please? I'm unsure what sound in the video's that Fatty's taken leads to a conclusion that the dephaser's gone? (not questioning the conclusion, just want to hear a healthy one really to compare like-for-like)

On start up, it does sound like the dephaser, had mine changed about two/three weeks ago and it sounded like that (mines a 172 Cup) now it sounds fiiine!

Does sound dephasery TBH in the first vid.

first vid is pretty normal, slight tick, nothing too bad

Id also check the water pump mine sounded dephasery when that went.

Yep that's what I thought Steve, Original poster I'm sure the warranty would cover this if it is gone!

Yes I will make a warrenty claim if im sure its the dephaser. I let someone else listen to it today in real life and they said it didnt sound like a diesal at all, so im conflicted now! :S Id really like to hear what a working engine sounds like so I can compare and put my mind in a set direction!

Whats the worst that would happen if i didnt get it changed? Is it just a case of it getting noisier? Im I at risk by driving it at the moment?

Just a quick update on this; I went to Renault (Barnstaple) today and asked if someone could come listen to my engine and tell me if the dephaser was going. They sent one of the senior mechanics (who also happened to own a 182) and he listened to my engine for me. He said it sounded fine, and that the slight rattle (can be heard in video 2) was actually from the engine cover, which was confirmed by pressing on. He even started up another on-site 182 to show me how similar it sounded, and i must say it sounded almost identical! He also advised that when the dephaser is going, it is very noticeable and loud. So it seems my engine is fine and its just me being paranoid (as usual)!

Loving it at the moment. I in the mist of coolent change and a few fixex her and there, but nothing to a degree that would cause me headaches (yet). Im looking forward to when all the little bits are done so I can start cleangint he engine bay area as its a mess at the moment!
