At last got my 182

  S4, Tamora, Conti GT
at last i got myself a 182, been wanting one since my first car a 51 plate 1.2 clio. Now just thinking of a few upgrades as i got this cheap as a few things needed sorting, and also insurance was much cheaper than the expected 4 figure value for a 20yr old. got about £1000 to spend, what should i look at getting. Will want to do some trackdays next summer.
Thanks Rob

Brakes and good tyres transform the Clio into what its best at, start there.

Maybe get some track tuition under your belt if you havent had it already...?

yeh brakes seem a decent idea, cars in for a full service, cambelt, waterpump, alternator, the lot etc atm, at a renault dealership. What size tyres am i looking for and the speed rating?

  Stripped yozza'd cup
As said
Brembo HC disks
Ferrodo ds2500 pads
(both for the front only)
Good tyres
Any engine maintenance that needs doing

From there, it's your choice really. Exhaust makes them a lot more fun IMO.
Decent second hand coilovers. H&R, Ast, bilstein etc.

You should have taken in to rentech!!!! RS specialist, and they're in portsmouth too. A lot cheaper

£1000 to spend...

1) Brakes if you want to do trackdays as you'll cook the standard ones driving spirited;y on the road let alone track

But if there's still life in your ones and you're not going on track till next year then I'd get decent suspension.

i did go to rentech first they quoted me £660 for alternator and cambelt with all the pulleys etc, took the written quote to renault and they matched the price. The £1000 is after all the servicing and belt changes, as i have already paid for those. Also what do people think of stuff from Ktec was thinking the stage 1 remap. Worth it?

I would go with what has been said, brakes first, I have the Brembo HC discs and Ferrodo DS25000 pads and i cant rate them high enough. Also good tyres are a must, if youre budget will stretch then Michelin pilot Exalto PE2 are very good on the RS Clio 1*2 but if the price is too high I find Toyo T1RS are a reasonable second choice.

As for K-tech I have never had any problem with them, and I have used them a lot, but they are expensive.

If you can be bothered to travel - go see Paul at RS Tuning in Leeds for a map... Be a b**ch of a journy though lol

I wouldn't bother with a map until you have some decent big mods, so cams/itbs etc.

If you want a remap get an RSTuner, cheap and with no big mods much better value than a custom map.

Doing trackdays i'd get brakes like already said so thats £300, then some decent tyres so thats £300 for a set of hankooks, whiteline/enrique rarb is around £200 (bit less for whiteline). £200 change buys you a trackday and a tank of fuel while your there.

£1k spent, wasnt that easy :rasp:

Errm when you can get the job done at half the price, by say Birchdown and alike, quoting over £1000 for a job in my view makes them idiots???

Surely its the customers who pay those prices who are the idiots? Not Renault, they are the ones laughing all the way to the bank, so to speak.

Personally i wouldnt go replacing consumables such as tyres unless they are crap or they need to be done! what tyres you running atm? and how much life left in them?

Tbh i would put a few hundred quid away (boring i know) incase anything breaks or goes wrong.... believe me it will!

Look at simple things like exhaust mounts and engine mounts! front discs and pads is a good idea though. Also 182 backboxes are prone to rusting so see what condition yours is in (if standard ofcourse), and you may look to replace it.
