ive made a few threads over the last month about subs, amps, speakers but i still dont know what to get. First of all i dont know what makes are better than others so if someone colud give a list of whats bad and good would be helpful, secondly i dont know weather to get a sub and amp seperate or get one of those combo ones. I am looking for a good upgrade of sound and bass but not too much, any help would be much appreciated.

what about speakers and headunit??
and wiring lol

for amp id suggest, JBL 1201.1,
can still get them on ebay, amazing value for money amp,

as for the rest look on sites such as car audio direct

Get a Vibe active sub, meaning it has a built in amp. Not too expensive either, about £200 iirc.

yeah i was thinking of buying one of them, has anyone on here got on of these and if so could you tell me if there good quality and worth buying, what performance wise would be different between a combo and having a sub and amp spereate.

I have one and it's mint quality tbh. No difference in performance/quality from my mates who has 2 amps and 2 subs really, his is just stupidly loud while mine is as loud as I want it!

going for an active sub is probally the best idea, 'Vibe CBR12 evo' is an active sub and very loud, can pick em up off ebay pretty cheap, they are also easy to wire up and will probally work out cheaper and easier in the long run, rather than buying a sub and amp seperate. make wise there isn't aload in it, mainly depends on the speccs of this compared to the price etc, but i wouldn't go into aldi and buy a sub, and the fusion/mutant stuff in halfords isn't great and it over priced.

(bit of a conicidence we both have 'campus sports 1.2' and almost the same user name lol)

Its all down to the price you want to spend... diffrent people like diffrent sound, some prefer the quality and some like it bassy...

Iv got a bit of both in my car good sound quality and more than enough bass to make you turn your head...
If your on a bit of a budjet look in to the vibe active subs or even the Fli, i wouldnt go for Fusion tbh...

Check out www.caraudiosecurity.com or .co.uk they have some good deal in there also look in the back of the fast car/max power mag for deals in other audio shops..

if you can stretch to £500 go for some of the MTX gear or save a little and go for Diamond audio..

If you have a bigger budget go to the high end of audio like JL or Focal. My only advice would be not just to listen to what people say to you about 'oooh my m8s uncles brothes cats owner has these subs and they loud son' loud isnt good if theres no quality in the sound..
Try and have a listen to a few set ups that people are running 1st in theyr cars find one you like and go from there.. If you didnt live so far away id happily sit you in mine for you to listen...

I bought my stuff from DB audio in cardiff, the guy in there sat me down asked me all sorts of questions on what id like. if i wanted ported or sealed boxes, if i wanted quality or bass ect i was confussed to the max, but he took me to a few of the cars he had done that day including his and i got to listen to what set ups where givng out what sounds ect....

came away from there with a very light wallet and a big ass focal set up..and im happy as larry!!!!

its really up to you though m8y

I normally go with a decent alpine headunit, ive got an old CDM 9825RB, you cant go wrong with one imo, Infinty componets front and a decent set of co ax's for the rear (alpine or pioneer do good ones) and you got a really good base sound system,

As for the sub its down to how you like your music, If you want it crystal clear then a Vibe Active 10" from last years range if you can get one! Theyre punchy as hell and give you a nice crisp bass note that doesnt drown out your speakers.

My mate has this set up in his polo GTI and it is fantastic

My advice....

Listen to a few different installs, (carry your own disc containing music you are very familiar with), use this experience to guide you towards your preferred system....

Plan your install to suit your budget, the two easiest ways are either to buy it all in one hit & fit it, or buy items one at a time & fit it in stages....

As a novice I would guide you away from the more exotic brands & suggest items which present good value and performance/reliability....

Nothing worse than stumping up a hundred notes for a sub which you may well damage through poor setup....

As a starter system I would suggest;

Front components--- SPL Dynamics
4ch Amplifier--- JBL GTO1004
Sub & Enclosure---JBL ported unit exclusive to Motorworld

I would recommend a 4awg power supply from battery to boot fused at 80amps....

To get the most from this kit you should fully sound deaden the boot floor, rear quarters & hatch panel, along with deadening & sealing of the front doors to improve front end mid-bass....

Remember, this is only advice, I have fitted these actual units into 7 different cars now, in each instance the results have been more than adequate....

ive looked at buying them all seperate but i think if i bought an vibe active i would save alot of money and hassel. They are not really expensive and tbh would be ideal as i dont want to spend stupid ammounts of money on audio equipment, as wallop has showed me before on ebay i may buy one off that shop that fixes ones that have broke and sells them again. They seem good value for money but i dont know if i can trust them. As a few of you have said above the difference between having an active and having a sub and amp seperate isnt much different. I dont want rediculous sound that blows the doors off my car but still want to be loud, punchy and abit of bass. If i did buy one of these are they easy to install on your won or is it worth having someone do it who knows what their doing, many thanks.

  RIP MK2 PH1/1.4 16v Polo
speak to will.clio! hes just braught some kickers and might be selling his vibe active unless hes already sold it to someone. its piss easy to fit in yourself will take a little while to hide the wires but not that hard
