Auto Headlights and Fog lights (or lack of)

Driving home last night, came to a very foggy stretch of country road. So I thought better put my front and rear fogs on...so flicked the switch and nothing:S . Tried it again and nothing, so get home check fuses (all OK). I'm now thinking dealer here I come:mad:

So I try my lights on manual....and low and behold the fogs work. So if I have my lights on auto and I come across fog, I have to switch my lights to manual (which means they go out for a second as I turn the switch) so then I can have my fogs on.

Someone please explain the logic behind this:S

Maybe the logic is if you are too damn lazy to turn on the headlights when it's dark, you're never going to think to turn on the fogs when its foggy. :clown:;)

logic is that it's illegal to have fogs on when not foggy so if they worked on auto lights on a foggy night and the next night it wasn't foggy and you forgot to switch fogs off when you get home then they will be on when not needed and you may not realise
