Auto lights on a 172? question + help needed

Hi all

Selling my 172 so I've been scouting ebay and the autotrader for idea of prices etc and i've noticed many are advertised with auto lights. Does mine have this? (2003, 53 model) and if so how do they work? Does a switch have to be in the right place etc?

I fear I've made a right fool of myself now so i'll go (can't be a bad as the time I posted on here to find out about the green warning that keeps coming up on the dash board only to find out it's a shift light! lol)

turn ignition on so the dash comes on but the engine isnt running (i think. if not try just position 1)

then turn ya headlights on, off, on, off, on, off till you hear it beep to indicate theyre on

the lights will come on whenever its dark*


or whenever they feel like it as its a renault.
