I wanted to wire up some extra interior lighting (not requiring much power) and was wondering where should I take the power feed from. Is it best to wire into the fuse box or just pick up power from the nearest wire going to the stereo or something similar? I want to do a proper job since a past owner of my car made such a mess of the wiring.

I would take it from the door switch. The one that turns the interior light on when the door is opened.

I kinda want this to be on its own switch (although it will be on the same fuse as the interior light).

Im also looking for a module that fades the interior light out after a set time. Maplin sell one but I think it just switches them off rather than fades.

Yeah it just depends whether you want it on demand and switchable or with the interior lights.
