Autoglym Gift.

Hi all,

Have no idea about the "detailing" scene tbh, so just after a few ideas.

It's a mate of mines birthday soon, and he has recently just got a new car, so thought i'd but him some nice cleaning kit for it.

I went to Halfords and saw they have a 3 for 2 on Autoglym at the moment, but had no idea what to buy as there was so much choice!

I have a budget of about £20, so was thinking along the lines of the car shampoo, maybe a nice cleaning mitt/sponge (again, don't know whats best).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is he ocd or just wants it to look clean to the normal eye?

If so get some srp, shampoo, microfibres, wool wash mit. Along them lines :)

i would get the big bottle of shampoo for £15, / microfibre wash mit (£4.99i think) and tyre shine should all add up to about £20

Shampoo, Super resin polish and Extra Gloss protection. Little over budget but a decent starting point for detailing there.

Thanks for the responses!

I had a look at some of the gift bags, but with the 3 for 2 it worked out cheaper just buying the different bits individually!

It's looking like i'll probably get him the shampoo, polish and then a good cloth.

Is it crucial/recommended to wax after polishing?

remember that the 3 for 2 is only on the cleaning chemicals. cloths and mitts etc aren't included. id actually recommend the mehr shampoo (in the blue bottle, i find its much better than the auto glym one.

A wax after polishing will seal in all your hard work and help protect the paint, and making future washing much easier. Dependant on type durability can last between and month and 6. Using something like AG SRP ( not strictly a polish ) will give the paint a nice shine and start to fill some of the light swirls, but this will not last on it's own against the elements and washing. Top it up with the AG EGP and it will protect it for a while, requiring future top ups with EGP to further proling durability.

The auto glym SRP / EGP is probably the most widely used combination amongst beginners and people not wanting to spend a fortune or trying out different products. I think everyone has used the combination at some point

Could poorboys blackhole be used instead of egp? But then would wax still be required?

blackhole is a glaze therefore I would use it instead of SRP.

EGP is a sealant, so use either a sealant or a wax over the top

I'd go AG Shampoo & AG Rapid Detailer & AG Aqua Wax...

£10 more than you planned on spending but will make the most differencte

So theres no point in getting SRP if I get blackhole?

How many months would EGP last?
Can i use egp instead of wax?
