Automatic headlights

Hi all,

I picked up my Ph2 Clio 172 on Wednesday evening.

On Friday evening, I took my mate out in the car and had to fill up at a petrol station. While I was filling up, he thought he'd have a little play with some of the controls, one of which being the headlights. When I got back into the car, I left the petrol station and the headlights would not turn on automatically. I had to manually turn them on. No real/big bother but something has or at least I think has already gone wrong. I turned them on tonight to think that it may have been a minor fault but they're still not kicking in. Does anybody know why this might be? Would he have been able to adjust something or stop them from working?

Turn your ignition key to postion to postion 1 ( engine off ). The turn the light switch on your stalk on / off on / off . You should hear a bleep . This activates / deactivates the automatic lights .

You need to turn them on and off twice until you hear the beep without the engine on or something along those lines.

Look through the windscreen and look behind the rear view mirror and see if there is a sensor behind it. Or start your engine and put your hand over the rear view mirror while stood outside of the car.

well u could carry out the process explained above, and see if you get the beep, then go stand outside and cover the possible sensor?

hahah yeah cos u own a volvo

I have managed to sort it :)

I tried all of what you had said and my mate (the one who decided to play with the controls) spoke to a Renault technician and he said that I was to put the key in, turn it once and then turn the lights on and off five times until I heard the beep. That was also incorrect.

In the manual, it says you are to turn your sidelights on and off twice to hear the bleep. What they failed to mention was that your key is to be inserted and turned twice (i.e. with all the warning lights on).

In my manual it tells you the ignition key must be turned to postion 1 ( engine off ) I actually tried it today on/off on/off without the key in and it still activates/deactivates the auto lights .
