Automatic Lights

Im pretty sure that the headlights on my 172 used to come on automatically when it was dark. Then my 2 year old son got in the car, pressed all the buttons, pulled all the levers etc. Now its stopped working.

I bought the car used and the manual is in Dutch so can someone give me a clue how to get them to work again?

Also whats that little non-tinted bit of glass in the bottom centre of the windscreen then?

Basically to get the lights working again....you have to put your key in the ignition and turn it all the way but not start it up (so all the dashboard lights come on).

Then on the light switch stalk you turn the lights on the off twice, this should make a beep noise. Then you have activated the lights again

oh oh did it work did it work

theres something wrong with me today, im having a bad year <worst so far> and ive become so impatient sorry for the ramble

dont have a clue about the windscreen

the clear square of glass is for the french, because of all the tolls in france they have yearly passes which drivers can drive through without stopping and a little gadget is recognised by a sensor and camera and it is billed directly or something like that.

Anyway, with our rose tinted windscreens that keep the heat out also keep these devices for penetrating (as well as gps systems and radar detectors getting out) so they leave a little window of normal glass for these things to get through the glass, there clear as mud!

In the meage it is not so noticable as the area is aroung the rear view mirror.

This post has just helped me out too

I was cleaning the inside this evening (picked the car up last night) and when I went to move it the lights didnt come on automatically. Now I know.
