Aux Belt need changing yet?

  53' 172 Cup
Last time i had my Cup serviced (36k miles) the garage told me they didnt see any point in changing the aux belt as it was still sound. its coming up for its next service now (48k) so should i insist on the belt being changed this time around? also is it worth getting the belt kit off ebay rather than letting the garage buy from renault? cheers

Get it done, if it goes it will prob take out your cambelt as well... The kit is cheaper from renault than on ebay, i got the kit for 47 with the vat from renault a few weeks ago, special offer or something tye guy in parts said as the tensioner is usually 140 on its own

Any garage who thinks theyknow the belts Ok and ignore the recomendations should shut up shop they obvoulsy don't know much.

Belt changed in the Cup without air con is simple enough 15 minutes work and not much in parts belt is only £12

Get the belt from Renault as its the only way to be sure its a new belt after all the EBay ones could have sat on a shelf for a few years.

Don't forget the Cup belt is different than the normal cars belts I've seen enough places order or been given the wrong ones and they often charge twice for labour.

Even for the aux sevice kit frrm Renault ins't that much more.

Don't forget if your cars over 4 years old I'd get the cambelt done as well I don't trust them belond 4 years or 60k whichever comes first and if you've no warently the Renault recomendations means nothing you see them fail before them and its much more expensive to fix than a new engine is to source and fit.

Ive just fitted a aux belt kit to a 182 today. The owner was told bay a Renault dealer that the belt LOOKED ok and was not worth changing, even tho its in the service schedule! its not worth changing the belt on its own as the kit is a bargain. iirc it was about 44 quid.

Dont know if the cup is the same, price wise etc or if they do a kit

Tbh, the age and milage of your car, id have the cambelt done too as edde says. He knows what hes on about

well i will get the aux belt done for sure....as for the cambelt - i thort it was 5 years or 72k miles? i cant really afford to shell out 400 quid on both in one hit!

2.7 hours list for a car with climate/air con

15 mins for cars ie cups which don't have them just normal heating system.

REALLY? wow, im suprised at the book time. I did one today (my second) in about 1 & half hours on my drive in the rain!
Thats the book time though.

Aux belt at 36k and the cambelt is 72k or 5 years but IMO I'd never leave a cambelt on longer than 60k or 4 years as they do break early. The spec set by Renault isn't the be and end all.

cambelts don't make noise, unless they're fitted wrong, too tight, too loose or the pulleys/tensioner bearings are knackered

Yeah, they have a 15% promotion on so daft not to go for it and keep the Renault service history going. Just need a trusted dealership now as the imcompetent fecks at Whitehouse Dartford are as useful ad a chocolate teapot and make up prices as they go along.
