Aux belt rubbing on cam belt cover

Hi, I've got a bit of a problem with my 172 cup.

The aux belt has been rubbing on the plastic cam belt cover near the crank pulley. I've replaced the belt with a new one but it's still doing the same thing.

It's worn away quite a bit of the plastic and I'm not really happy driving the car like this. All of the pulleys seem to be in line and the cover is as far back as it will go.

Any ideas? I can provide more pictures if needed.

Cheers

Owen

belt is on one rib too far over i'd say

No, it's routed wrong and is very common on the 172 Cup.

Belt goes from the top of the crank pulley under the water pump pulley not over it then over the alternator and PAS pump.

Thanks for that, I'll change it round tomorrow :)

I've only just bought the car so it's not being driven at the moment while I sort out the issues on it, unfortunately I think the previous owner did quite a few miles like this.

  A special one.
Best buy a new belt mate.

If a aux belt goes on a clio then it takes the cam belt out to.

Yep, easy mistake. I've done it.

Easy to swap over luckily.

For the sake of £10 for a new belt, worth changing it.

Already got a new belt, the pic is of the old one. Ordered it as soon as I saw the problem!
