Aux belt

Hi,

I have a 172 cup that has just done 44k. The car has had a cam belk kit 2k ago. Is it due a aux belt? If not when is it due? Does anyone know of any guides or pictures of how to do it? Searched the forum but cant seem to find anything!

Thanks

Hmmm, should have done! Who did it mate? ring them maybe! Anyway, its a piece of pee! Belt is £12 and 20 mins to do if your a novice!!

Really? Thats a big relief! Im not to bad with cars, so think im may be able to do it!? It doesnt go around any part of where the cam belt goes does it? What i mean is, im not going to have to take the cam belt off our anything am I? Also is it just the belt? or do you have to replace anything else? is there an aux belt kit?

Thanks alot

Just a belt mate, nope dont touch the cambelt! Literally 3 spanners needed! You will doddle it!

on a car with aircon yes, everytime, i see loads of them with knackered lower idler pullies (sideways danny will disagree) on a car without aircon, just the belt is all thats needed

sorry for the inane questions guys, but you think i'd be able to do the aux belt kit myself? (have aircon)

or does it require special tools?

Thanks for you help Fred! But are you sure as i have been reading on here that if you dont get it done it can cause your engine to seaze or cause it serious damage or something. But i cant see how just replacing a belt can prevent it from seazing. If the belt snaps can it damage the engine?

Well, not really.... you can do it with conventional tooling! It isnt easy though mate, but if your half handy with the tools! Tensioning the belt you may find difficult!

We made a tool.

172 cup aux belt (non aircon) is easy, takes about 15min and no special tools, no idlers or tensioners to replace, the alternator is the tensioner

if the belt snaps, then 95% chance its bye bye engine (it wraps around the lower crank pulley, jamming the engine)

lol, didn't even pay for the steel, came from a mates factory when they cleared out. DIY tools....epic TBH :D

Stole it out of dads workshop..... Went looking for appropriate material, came back with it, never said a word! he he!!! Painted it and hung it up!
