Average Tyre Duration

Hi all

Had the Cup bout 2 weeks now, and the fronts r looking.........*ehm*.....scrubbed :)

Just wondering what the average life expectancy of a pair of fronts are? Obviously it depends how u drive em etc...

What im getting at is r the standard fit Contis a bit on the soft side, or do these cars just shread front tyres?

p.s. what tyres do u recommend? Not sure bout the Contis

Cheers

Yeah, cause on the torque steer they shred the fronts. Especially in your getting to know your new, fecking excellent, best car youve ever had phase!! I went through my first front set in 6,000, 5k really - I rode around illegally on 1mm of tread for about a week (1000 miles).

No tyres Ive had are any better wear wise than the Contis (they have got a high tread wear rating), but always go for good grippy ones otherwise youll destroy its handling characteristics.

Just treat it as one of the downsides of having a rapid car, or drive slower!!

My tyres were down to the minimum after bout 14k and I drive the lowest power diesel.

Tyre life is related to how hard you drive it nothing you can do about it.

Stickier compound tyres will give you better grip but will wear fater its a trade off.

Done just over 5k miles in my Cup now and theres plenty of tread left...

I saw 12k out of the Contis, that was normal road driving and 4 days at Santa Pod.

Ive just swapped all 4 to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

I went through a set of front Contis on a MK2 172 is less than 8000 miles. Ive had the Michelin Pilots on my MK1 172 for over 10000 miles now, including many many 1/4 mile runs in this time, and theres still loads of tread left.

I got 17.5k off my contis and that included a couple of track days. Did swap the fronts with rears after about 10k but unfortunately my nearside rear just gave up on my with a huge hole in the inside tyre wall :(

Spooky.....this happened to my tyre wall on the ContiSports. Driving along on the motorway and it just blew out. Most annoying this was that I had it replaced at the roadside with another bloody ContiSport.

Got 10k out of my first set (including running in) fitted Goodyear Eagle G1s GSD2s. much better grip all round than the contis.

the contis wear really quick.mine were illegal at about 9000 miles.they dont seem to have a deal of tread on them to start with though.
