I checked the B&M site and see their FAQ, find this Q&A:
Q: After installing the shifter in my car it became hard to shift because the cable melted on the exhaust. What should I do?
A: Secure the cable as far away from the exhaust as possible using tie wraps and fabricate a heat shield out of thin sheet metal and attach it to the exhaust pipe with muffler clamps to act as a heat shield.
I also find the shift is a bit hard even I get used to now. But does the cable close to the exhaust pipe on our Clio 172?
