b2 laser detector madness

Lee

  BMW M2C

Ive had the b2 since March of this year and not once has the laser detector gone off.

This morning Ive driven Birmingham to Gatwick and back. Near Birmingham it went of, so we all looked around and there was a police car parked on the opposite side of the motorway in one of there hiding places. Then a few miles down the road it did it again, once again another hidden plod.

Then again later on it went off again when passing a couple of motorway gantries!! Then when I arrived at Gatwick it never stopped going off.

It also went off once on the way back.

Anyone got any idea what the hell is going on with it? Are some new cameras using laser?

Thanks

Lee

who knows Lee, my laser has never gone off on my snooper S5 nor my new road angel 2. mind I dont expect it go off either on the new road angel as the wipers will prob be blocking the laser detetection. Is it right the B2 laser is up near the rear view mirror?

Ive got mine installed at the bottom of the screen just high enough to clear the wiper blades. I dont need to worry about the screen as laser passes through the coating.

laser pens dont set them off, tried already lol

also what does having a phone plugged in make a differnce I have a 3 way power spiltter so I can if need be use my road angel 2, phone charger and say something else if I want to.

Lee have you got any pics of your complete detector install?

thanks

It just seems really that since March its never once gone off for a laser, then today it spots 2 which appeared correct, then it just seemed to go mad the rest of the day.

There might have been interferance at the airport which could have triggered the sensors......

Ill have a look in the manual to see what it says about airports......

But laser is line of sight.. be pretty rare for something to set it off I would have thought unless its being fired straight at it!

how is the unit fixed to the dash top Lee?
With the little sticky pad supplied by Origin. I ordered 2 when I swapped my car, as the ones they supply work really well and dont mark when you remove the craddle.

It doesnt say anything about interferance in the handbook.

Dont know pal....keep a eye on it and see if it happens again. Atleast it spotted the first two which is good to know !

you say u went to gatwick,

planes/airpoerts seem to use lasers for some reason. not sure why.

I always come round the M25 to come home,

and when a plane is goign up the laser goes off. ive also experienced this by birmingham airport as well.

Lee u shud have popped in to say hi!!!! since u were so close to me house ;)

Alot of the time the sensors on automatic doors can set it off....

Alot of the radiation those things send out are slattered and sent everywhere around an airport and may well have caused your unit to malfunction

I had mine connected with a splitter and my p900 charging in the other socket - everytime the phone got to 100% charge the laser alert would go off  Strange but it happened

Automatic doors should only affect radar units - not the laser ones tho

On my cup if I press the horn for a long period of time it sets off the Laser warning on my B2.

I panicked first time because i was just messing about going down a quiet country road and it started bleeping like mad, with nothing around I could see. Then managed to work out that by pressing the horn for a few seconds it sets it off :)

The Laser detector on my Bel990 goes off as I go under gantries/bridges sometimes - I think the number plate reader things emit infrared so they can work at night, and I imagine its close to the laser wavelength? Perhaps?!

you know these things that have a camera type thing on the top, the warning posts saying "slow down 30 zone" or whatever they light up as you approach them. What do they emit as they never set my laser alerts off.

p.s Ive ordered a longer antenna for my road angel 2 so should be able to wire it to back of car and get the road angel2 above line of wipers for full laser coverage.

mm, well it never went off when I used my snooper s5 when i approaced them, thats why i cant understand what they use.

Lia, Like LeeM my GPS aerial is on the drivers side rear side window shelf, half way along using a sticky pad. Picks up signal spot on every time.

  Ford Fiesta

thats where i am going to put mine when my longer wired antenna arrives the standard 2 meter one meant I could not mount the road angel 2 in the centre of the screen and have the antenna near the back of the car, just was not long enough. And I want it run under the carpet and up behind the rear seat.

I ran mine forward along the window ledge, then down the door pillar near the seat belt mechanism, then under the plasic trim at the base of the drivers door. The floor trim clicks off, but be gentle so as not to snap the clips. You could go behind the rear seat, but be more difficult imo.
