Back into the clio scene - advice needed!

  future 172 or 182
Evening all, I'm new to this site so apologies in advance for n00by mistakes...!

I've loved Clio's since my first 1.2 versaille 4 years ago at the age of 17, awwww
then moved to the 1.2 mkIII speed machine ;)
and finally (before I sold it to go to uni) my pride and joy mkIV 1.6 in Monaco Blue.

I'm now in a position where saving student loans etc and being 22 it's actually possible to venture into the world of owning a 172 or 182...

I've read the guide and been lurking around in some threads but basically what I need is advice from people who have them already/have had them in the past...

The main questions I have are:

Is mileage really an issue if the service history is good?

I would be more than content with a 172 - but what am I missing out on compared to a 182?

BELTS! What's the deal? Are they still good if replaced 30k ago? or should I put aside £600-700 to have them done myself?

and finally - I will probably end up getting a 172, but I LOVE the anthracite wheels on the 182, do the 182 alloys come up on here often?

Many thanks in advance! Much appreciated.

Welcome!

Buy on condition and service history not mileage.

The cambelt is 5 years or 72k which ever comes first. So if the cars only done 30k since last chance but it was over 4 years ago budget to have it done in the near future. A specialist/Trader on here is best bet for this job if its due.

Second hand alloys of the 172/182 come up on here fairly regularly so I wouldn't worry about that

If you get one off the forum chances are it will have been looked after properly.

If you become a member you will be able to see all Traders sections and market place :)

Sweet! Thanks for the advice! Yeah, it feels right to judge it on how well it's been looked after, just slightly strange dropping nearly £3k (which is a lot of money to me!) on a car with 100,000+. I must have faith!

Great! I'll have a check around the market place, and become a full member (it's the keyring that sold me ;))

Thanks for the welcomes and advice too! Cheers peeps

No worries.

That budget will get you a tidy car. There's a couple of 172 Cups for sale at the moment like the picture you posted in your OP.

Welcome mate! im a new member myself and have purchased a car similar to the one in your example! Paid £1400 for a 172 cup 53 plate, its not as tidy as that one but with £500-£600 spent will look just as good! Also 102k on the clock but full service history and cambelt done at 96k! so there is definately some bargains to have just look around and like someone said purchasing off these forums will most likely mean the car's well looked after!

You can purchase decent 172/182s for way less than that, recently bought my 172 for £1300, 53 plate with 89k on the clock which was fully driveable and in good mechanical and interior/exterior condition etc but I spent £500 tidying it up to my standard.
