The lower part is made up from two parts, both have these leg like metal parts on the front edge. You need to put the seat into a 'tipped' position and then it will slide back into the slots in the rear seat footwell.
Sometimes the carpet in the footwell can ride up blocking the slots, so give it a good tug out of the way so that the slots appear.
