backfiring, not coil pack, not spark plugs

  M135i
Car keeps backfiring and generally running shite, Took it on the motorway today and suddenly it just wouldnt pull any more and was gettin a top speed of 60mph in 5th gear foot full down. Also engine manegment light came on for 10 mins. Been told to take it to renault for a test, just wondering if anybody had any ideas on here before i fork out £70 . Also got told it could be the piston heads, but thas v expensive to change. Any help really would be much appreciated.

Backfiring?

dont you mean mis-firing...?

It could be a multitude of things, HT leads/spark plugs, shagged injectors etc

(you dont have to take it to Renault mate, any specialist will have the diagnostic equipment :) )

Same difference lol Yeh i did mean mis-firing.

I dont know any spcialists around here ( manchester). Could it be the piston rings ? as i got told of another source you need blue smoke and i never saw any smoke at all. Just hoping its not a big/expensive job.

If you can get to Congleton, I'll plug it in for you. We only charge £35.

Its a 1.2 Dynamique... Well he said he tryed a brand spanking new coil pack, not sure if he changed the leads aswell, and still no difference.

Mines doing exactly the same, do you have an electrical fault light on the dash when it is misfiring? Won't rev past about 3k?

Nope no lights apart from the airbag light but thats becuase i havent wired my new seats up correctly

And tbh it seemed to pull quite well when i took it down the road last night :S

cheers mate, its a big blow just to get it tested (especially whilst on an apprentice wage) but i guess its all about running costs and being able to run a car :(. If you have any other ideas just let me know. Its not the spark plugs and its not the coilpack and im guessing not the HT leads.

Had it checked out again by a mate and he reckons it could be the throttle sensor, does this sound about right ?

I'd say a injector seen a lot of them on 1.2's but with out seeing/looking at the car it's hard to say try pulling the injector wires off one by one and see if there is one not dieing the engine down if there is try swopping that injector with one of the others then do the same again if it still not dieing down on that injector you now whats wrong or just take it to a independent garage around by you
