BAD gearbox leak

Recently changed my gearbox. Now it's dropping oil at a rapid rate. Its spraying towards the bulkhead and onto the subframe when the car is in motion but not clear where it's coming from exactly. It's deffo coming from the nearside as the offside is completely dry.

At a guess, I think the driveshaft cv boot may not be sealing where it meets the box. This would explain the spraying as the driveshaft spins.. Has anyone heard of this before? I was going to take it off and use some silicone and refit...

my mate replaced the box on his ibiza and it done the same, it was the driveshaft seal. i know its not a clio but very similar problem? we figured it out by driving about until hot then quickly jumping out to see where it wqas dripping from if that makes sense?

Check the gaitor is seated centrally on the metal ring, ive seen them leak before if its not all been put on centrally...

Cheers. I'll check that out later. Surely a bit of silicone can't hurt too?

I wouldn't use silicone there.

If there was a need for it, it would have been used to start with.

Silicone will not stick to any oily surface, and plus the temp range of the oil will f**k the silicone up anyway. Bad idea.

Get it fixed properly!

Mine is doing the same, took it in today and was quoted £500 to get it fixed, and that includes a new clutch "because it would be silly not to fit a new clutch"
that a fair price?????

PMSL. Depends where the leak's coming from.

If they can fix it without removing the box, then they're trying to rip you off.

If the box is coming off, it probably makes sense to do the clutch if it's still on it's original.

Never heard on here of anyone having to get their gearbox taken out just for a leak? - Back street garage yeah?

If you do need the box out and youve done a fair few miles then agree might as well do the clutch while your in there.

It was the seal to the box, I don't think it was fitted back on straight. Took the bracket off, re-seated the boot to the box and fitted the bracket back over it with a little sealant and it seems to have done the trick!
