Bad Times

Driving home from work just now, and my car decideds to completely cut out and wont start! The last thing i remember is the battery light coming on the dashboard. All week it hasnt been pulling after 5000revs so I new something was wrong, but now this has just done it for me. Has anyone got any ideas?

Alternator problems? Did the headlights go dim / wipers slow up as well? Does it turn over properly?

Turns over ok, not too sure on the wipers as I didnt have them on and headlights didnt dim, i was driving then all of a sudden it just cut out and the battery light came on and the power steering went. Could it possibly be something to do with the negative battery cable not earthed or engine breather pipe? It probably is more than likely to besomething to do with the alternator. very bad times!

Started car up this morning and it started up fine, really dont have a clue what is going on but its going to the garage today.
