Ball joint, fitting plastic bit

At the weekend I changed a load of suspension bits on the 182, a friend was helping. After bolting everything together I realised he hadn't fitted the white plastic washer/dust cover/ what ever it is between the ball joint and the hub.. How important is it that is there?

Obviously I fitted it on the side I did so one side has it the other doesn't. Do I need to get back under and fit the missing one?

It should be a little black rubber seal at the bottom of the ball joint, which isn't easily removable do I can't imagine its not been fitted.
normally when you buy them in the box they have the big plastic cover on them, is this the bit you mean?

Lol! Yep, you need to get back under and remove the one you put in.
Edit: thought you meant the hat.

I can't see it being a big issue. But while they're still new it'd only take you 30 minutes to fit the washer thing.

Its not needed, I'd remove the one you have already fitted.
