Just got back from newcastle about 30mins ago having picked up another 172

She needs a fair amount of work, front bumper needs resprayed, alloys need a clean up and few other bits and pieces and also the big job of replacing the valves, cambelt, and whatever else is broken in the engine... Aux belt split into 2 parts and wrapping itself around the cam belt!

Its had a hard life, 2 cambelts f**k ups in 8 months iirc, but its on 66k miles and i got it for a bargin price imo.. Hopefully il get a project thread up about it being restored to its former glory!

There are better cars out there to start collecting Mr T ;). I would use one for track and the other for road use.

They will be classics one day just you wait and see!

Im unsure about using one for track i can make quite a good profit on it once its running, might get a cheap ph1 with the profits, im unsure..

Ye fixing it up for profit is a nice idea, not exactly worth much running so i'm guessing you paid practically nothing for it. How the hell does it go through 2 cam belts in 8 months! Apart from the aux belt failure how did the other cam belt fail. Bad fitting or problem elsewhere causing failure?

Im assuming bad fitting, looking through the recipts its had one done on the 29th of june last year for the lovely price of £1000, a pully failed wrecking it about 15mins after he collected it from the garage, and they refused to take responsibility for it, then it had one on the 27th of jan this year along with a new piston etc, and last week only 3000miles after it was done, the aux belt sheared and killed it again, so that can only be down to REALLY bad luck or bad fitting.

Yeah he is, its a shame what happened with it really, he seems like such a nice guy but he just got screwed over :(

Yeah, I remember reading about his car. Really bad luck.

Just noticed you original BB has washer blanks. Saving weight?

Haha, epic weight saving there ;)

Nah the ball popped out of one then they started leaking so i just took em out and got some blanks, looks better imo, going to get the washers on this one smoothed over i think
