Battery>Amp Wire Route

D

Dj Annihilation

Hi Guys

Managed to pretty much complete my sound upgrade. Changed Headunit, tackled the dash removal for tweeter change and everything else apart from a nice sub.

Followed the guide, pushed a screwdriver through the grommet on passenger side where the bonnet wire is, have to admit i prob made lots of holes, took ages, the wire would not go through, real tight gap, hopefully will be o.k, got it through in the end

My question is, is there any chance of that leaking? Reason i asked was on the old Zetec S the grommet was literally under the water drain for the windscreen and it was really exposed to wet, had to use sealant after to ensure safe. How about this one? to be honest it looks hidden away from any water etc? Just wanted to make sure as dont want any water leaks etc. Looks like there is sum wiring under the glove box that needs to stay dry lol!.

After that I am guessing i pull the plastic off down the sides and thread the wire down that side and the RCA's down drivers side? They literally pull off? OR are they fragile things ?

Cheers

Louis

I don't think it will leak, mine isn't totally sealed and never had any problems.

Re. RCA and power yea thread them under the plastic sill bit. Pull up the rubber door seal bit, and you can either take the whole plastic thing out, by undoing the rear seatbelt lower bolt holder thing, and pulling off the bonnet release handle on the passenger side, then they just pull up off. Quite fiddly to get back on though.
or if you've got small fingers, you can just push the wire into it through the gap left by the door seal.
the hardest bit I found is getting it through the rear plastic bits next to the rear bench.

i wouldn't bother putting them down either side of the car

i've only ever put them down the same side of the car and never had a problem ever

Will they all fit down one track? Surely it could cause noise interference?

yeah they should fit fine down the passenger side.

noise isn't a problem cause by wires running close to each other

that isnt true im affraid. its always best to run your RCA's and remote wires seperate to your power cable. if there is ever feedback coming through your speakers it is caused by interfearence from your engine through your power cable ,but the power cable isnt the wire that runs the frequencys to the amp its the RCA's ,hence why if you run them together it can pick up interfearence from your power cable and thats why it comes through your speakers, but if keep them seperate your avoiding that risk. as the saying goes "prevention is cheaper than the cure" . saves running them all down one side and realising your gettin interfearence and then havin to rip it all apart again to re-run them down seperate sides, or keep them as they are and have to buy a surppressor ,which dont always fully do the job!

I've run all mine next to each other and never have any problems. Mostly because I couldn't be bothered with the hastle of laying wires on the other side to and ending up with a spagetti junction! This was just for a sub though. When I install and amp some components I'll do it properly. I found the plastic trim litterally just popped up and wasn't 'fragile' in anyway. Obviously don't go mental at it. You should just be able to tuck them neatly out of sight.

if you get noise you have a bad earth 99.9% of the time

surely you should run the power and remote down one side and the rca's down the other?

Well after all that I have now wired it all up, easy to be fair. I ran power down passenger and rcas + remote down drivers side. No problems at all. Did have a funny exp on way to work this morn, car worked fine when i locked it last night, unlocked it this morn tried startin it and the car went mad, lights were goin wild on the dash, all funny noises from the car lol, wouldnt even turn over, couldnt lock it after that eitther, had a play around under the bonnet with the battery and then started working again lol. Scared me to dealth lol! not what you want at 6am in morn b4 work!

I have to admit the french aint best at their electrics, after fitting the sub, my rear drivers indicator just stopped working, played around with connections at back and hey presto lol! - i guess moving things around cause these problems!
