Battery Light Problem

On me mates 1.4 rt the battery light came on and if the engine went over 4500rpm the light temperaly went off. but now when it comes on the engine has to do 5500rpm to get the light off. Does anyone know what this is? is it an alternator problem and if so why doesnt the light stay on? Thanx

ps if it is an alternator problem does any1 know how much a new 1 is?

It sounds like an alternator problem. Just not charging the battery enough. Probably something simple like worn alternator bushes.

Just get a mechanic to look at it, dont think a repair kit is too pricey
