Battery relocation

  Clio 172
The interior will be coming out of the clio for a good clean over the coming weeks and i've been considering moving the battery to the boot while it's out in order to free up space in the engine bay for a better induction kit.

I was wondering what exactly i would need to do this so i can gather it all together before i tackle the job. What gauge of wire will i need? Will i need to wire in any fuses? Is it as simple as running a longer positive and negative wire to the right terminals and then run a ground cable from the negative terminal to the chassis?

I have been reading about using a junction post from a 6 cylinder bmw, how exactly does this work?

If its going in the boot you will need 0wg cable. Its a long way from the engine back there. Didnt work too well when I did it. I used a BMW junction (Helps make the connections under the bonnet and gives you a jump start point should you ever need it)

I now have a non-spillable battery (redtop) under the passenger seat

how exactly does the bmw junction work? is it just an easier way of connecting the old wires to the new wires going to the boot of the car? does it provide an earth cable, or should i still run an earth to the chassis in the boot?

Just use it to connect the normal battery wires to the new one going to the battery. You earth it near the battery.

It may take a while but if you read through my project thread there will be loads of pics etc

Did you dig out the details from Burps thread Colm?

I had the battery out of mine at the weekend and I'm envious of the space that it would create if it was located elsewhere. The second problem then is how to secure the ECU flat over the engine mount so that you can place the airbox directly in front of the TB.

How long does your redtop hold a charge between usage Burp?

Never had to charge it yet. Left it for 5-6days no problem. I have it hooked up to a optimiser now tho so it stays topped up
