battery!

there i was drivin along, when my stereo stopped working so pulled over to have a tinker took the stereo out and my car wouldnt start!! i think a wire shorted out would this kill a battery??? my mate jump started me and it ran fine but wouldnt start again if i switched off!

would a short circuit knacker a battery that quick?

did the batterey light come on? sounds like the alternator? any squealing noise? In my old XR2 i was driving along and the stereo just stopped working and then the headlights dimmed, turned out to be the alternator!

there was no battery light but the alternator belt was a bit squealy a few days b4, also i dissconnected the negative battery lead when i took my stereo out in case there was a short perhaps the connection is dodgy, im bout2 go and give it another bash now
