BB TUNING TURBO...

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..

Hey, has anybody had the turbo conversion that they do for the 1.8 clio? there r 2 packages; package 1 is about 4000ish, package 2 is about 6000ish. they rekon the 172 conversion will be ready at the end of the year i think, their sposed to be sending me a brochure on the 1.8 version so as i can get an idea. seems a lot at first but when u think ur car will still cost under 20k for the power of other far more xpensive motas, he he. :D

Then add VAT to those prices as well!

Im having the high boost job done. If you look at the parts list when it arrives youll see that most of the cost of the job is in parts not labour (labour charged is only about £800 out of the total cost which is nothing considering the development done and the job it is). Theres nothing in the parts list which is at an overinflated price, its all at the going rate.

Which makes you wonder (well it makes me wonder!) what are people going to get when they talk of these mysterious £2000 turbo conversions? Theres more to it than just a thicker head gasket, a turbo and manifold, some pipe and a 5th injector. Not wanting to sound like an advert, but BB are doing mine and I trust them to build it properly. Its basically a complete turbo engine rebuild, not just a bolt on job.

any news on the trip nick hope the turbos going fine. did your car play up with ur chip ??. wen changing gear the revs wont go below 1500rpm is that norm, maybe a antistall device??

thanx, id gathered it was a big job, when i spoke to them they said everything the car needs for the turbo is in the package and u wont need anything else...like u say wot r they gettin for 2000. should b gettin the info tmo, lookin forward to the 172 conversion. got any figures eg bhp ,0-60 after the turbo. the high boost set up...i take it thats the 6000ish one? wots the 1.8 like to drive with the turbo etc....thanx :D

Do they actually check if your engines up to it first? You should be on a rolling road b4 and after so that will add to costs. Id be dubious about strapping turbos to cars which havent been designed for them, especially sitting in traffic in the summer. Whats the intercooler like, front mounted? What power do they promise? Is the standard transmission up to it? Tyre costs!!

as Nick said "Its basically a complete turbo engine rebuild, not just a bolt on job" so I cant see there being any problems. BB Tuning know there stuff!

Have faith!!!!!!

A point im trying to make is car manufacturers do millions of miles of road testing. Im sure BB tuning dont. Fair enough, you might only keep the car for 2 more years or something, but still, IMO id be happy with a normal valver and just get a better car later on.

um....rob......this is BBT!

Almost any engine can run a turbo, the F4R engine in the megane, laguna, 172, vel satis and espace ranges from 140bhp to 220bhp with a turbo......

And its almost certain that BBT did do testing and development....which is why it took so long.

they did rolling road it first i think that is how it blew up in the first place was it not ???

and as others have said this isnt just a turbo the screw on the side the entire engine has been remade.

and they will test it to make sure it has no weaknesses.

believeus all IT WILL BEAT most cars on the road, nick has told me that he needs to use lots of ducttape with it though, cos of the amount of power he needs to tape his hands to the steering wheel to stop them flying off when he puts the pwerdown :D

How much power is the renault turbo giving though? And how much does the BBT give?

I know they must do some, but not on a huge scale. Im not having a knock at BBT, im just saying i wouldnt go there! Well unless i had bottomless pockets...

i just said.....in the laguna/vel satis/espace its pumpin out about 170bhp...in the megane sport about 220.

The BBT conversion is bonkers.........ask nick.....near or over 300 or summat.

Thought the most amount of power u can have in a small FWD car was around 220/230bhp? Is there ANY traction after this? Or would the suspension and chasis setup need tweeking aswell to compensate for the power?

It seems either the clio can take this power, or people dont seem to care. I think there are some people who are too impressed by power figures to think about handling/traction etc. Most FWDs cant cope with 200bhp without special diffs etc, i.e Ford Focus RS.,Fiat coupe, Alfa GTV

well, i wouldnt call it not handling the power, as nova trbos can rush about with 300+ from 2ltr turbo XEs, GTTs have up to 350bhp and they can drag.....its all about being clever with your throttle. of course, if your a rock ape and jump on everything, then of course itll spin. But LSDs ATBs do help, but dont answer the ques.....300bhp is jus alot of power.......but an F1 spins up far easier....i.e all the time if it want for sensible use of the throtle or now TC.

Whoah thats a lot of thread there. All I can say is Rob, have some faith. Not everyone wants to sell their car in two years time and buy another one. *ANy* engine can be turbocharged its not exactly a leap into the unknown. Its just that like any forced induction mods, you need to go about it the right way, you cant just bolt on a turbo and hope for the best it doesnt work like that. My engine blew up because I had set the nitrous programming and ignition timing wrong.

It will be plenty fast enough young Padawan, IMHO quicker than anything else Im ever likely to see on the mean streets of Essex, and there is some fast machinery round these parts. Standard output will be around 240bhp, and that is a rolling road tuned and tested figure at around 15psi boost. You can speculate all you want but you really need to go out in it to see whats what. It is quite simply, SOLID, the conversion is solid, the running of the car is solid, the whole thing is solid. Not one single detail has been left out of this conversion I can promise you, it is totally reliable under all conditions and will not overheat however much you push it. I reckon 0-60 will be somewhere in the 5s maybe 4s (traction will be the problem on a 0-60 run), 0-100 will be a better test, it feels like 12s or thereabouts - bear in mind I know what Im talking about - Im used to my Clio as it was - 1/4 miling in 14.48 seconds at 96mph. Quarter mile time I reckon12/13 seconds, well have to see. Definitely wont be languishing in the 14s this season, and seeing as Im stripping it out even further I should be packing around 250bhp/ton + depending on how much I strip out. About the same as a WRC car in other words, and a hell of a lot more than 99% of cars on the road.

That will fly mate. Ive been out in my mates P1 and that is like poo of a shovel with I think 230 bhp per ton or something like that.

Ya. (From Denmark)

I bouth the DIY kit from 4 month ago. But Im still missing some things. My Clio will reiced about 190 - 200 with 10 psi and about 295 NM. Thats all with standart pistons.

NICK!!!!!

go boy go!

anyway, i doubt you will get into the 4s.....maybe high 5s......

tehre awas a foesta RST with close to 400bhp and slicks and that just managed the sub 5s.....its a fwd thing.....so not to worry, itll be more than rapid!

Yeah Im not a big fan of 0-60 runs anyway Ben, just people always wanna know dont they. 5s is realistic. Im sure high 4s could be acheivable but it would be a mission. Once youre rolling though, it flies, it really flies. you dont even have to bother changing down a gear, just go for it flat stick in 4th at any speed and it still pulls like a train. BTW Ben was that the one in Fast Ford? The XR with a turbo?
