Bedding in new discs and pads?

  Monaro VXR/Cupra TDi
Due to have new Brembo Max discs and new Ferodo DS 2500's pads fitted tomorrow.

Any particular method of bedding in required?

Thanks.:)

Obviously give the Pedal a Good Firm few presses before you set off then just go gently on them for about 250+ Miles, Just wait until you feel they have worn through all the glazing and are biting really well

Thats not what the ds 2500 pad instructions say :S I defo agree tho :)

Had the DS 2500's and the Brembo Max discs fitted at Ren-Tech the other day.

Unfortunately Mike was unable to do any hard stops due to traffic. The same applied to myself since it was rush hour.

Must have covered circa 100 miles on the return trip to Essex without hard stops.

Does this matter? Will it impede the future performance of the brakes or can I get away with braking lightly for the next 500 miles?

with my ds2500 i just drove gently (as difficult as that may be) for the first 400-600 miles. you could gradually feel them getting stronger. Within that period I also did a few heavy stops just to get some heat to cure the compound properly.

the instructions in the ds2500 crack me up though. "install pads then do a few hard stops at the end of every straight then come back into pits to check condition" ... along those lines any way!

I tend to give them a few high speed firm long stops to get them bedded in at the start, then take it easy for a few hundred miles, trying not to get them too hot.

After that it's rock and roll.

A few heavy stops are in order then over the next week.

Thanks for the advice.:)

Once bedded in is this combo of Brembo Max discs and DS 2500 pads safe for extreme braking of 120 m.p.h. + without disc warpage? If not will the Yozzasport brake cooling kit prevent this from happening?

So once bedded in this combo will withstand stops of over 120 m.p.h. ? No need to worrying about warping the Brembo Max discs?

Ferodo said:
1) Perform 25 to 30 trial brake applications, each of approximately 4 seconds, using around 50% of normal race pedal pressure. To shorten the procedure applications can be made along the straights as well as at bends.

2) On completion of trial applications return to the pit lane. (...)

Bedding-in instructions on the DS2500's are quite funny, but than again, it says on the box "for race use only".

Just got mine fitted today (along with some ATE PowerDiscs), so I'm glad to have found this thread and seeing that one obviously doesn't have to be religious about it.

Could be the compound not curing yet? but after a spirted drive this evening of 12 miles or so I noticed brakes weren't bitting and stopping to well.

More bedding in required? Or just more pedal pressure as components become hot?

Discs aren't shiny yet, becoming that way, somewhat grey with very tiny grey speckles.

Noticed from cold today brakes aren't biting as they did before last night's spirited drive. 220 miles covered before giving the brakes a little workout.

Will the biting return to what it was with a another 100 or so miles on the clock?

^ Thanks for the thread. After reading you intial post there, that's exactly what mine feel like.

So this greening "process" only lasts a short period and is remedied by a few hard stops here and there, nothing too extreme?

Did your's improve after the greening period?

As I'm in the process of bedding my DS2500's in as well, I'd like to get this cleared up. Would this be okay?

1.) Use the new pads moderately for the first couple of hundred miles.

2.) Once done with the moderate braking, a few firm stops to get some heat in the pads are in order.

3.) When that is done, there might be a greening phase and the pads' bite will be much less than optimal.
3.a) Let the pads cool fully.
3.b) Do a few medium braking attempts.

4.) Now th pads are ready to use to their full potential.

What I'm not so sure about, is if the greening phase could be started much earlier, maybe even initially, when the pads are fitted? I would suppose so, since the Ferodo instructions don't advise any moderate braking at first...

Maybe someone could clear this up once and for all?

Linsen

^ Indeed.

Anybody with info regarding the question above and will the problem I'm enduring fade away with time?
