200 Cup Or GTD? Choice :S

I know this is probably a silly thing to put on a clio owners site so it could be a bit bias lol.

Iv been discussing with my dad about a new car and we came to an agrement that if i pay half he will pay the other half.
now iv came to a choice:

The new Golf GTD 170

Clio 200 Cup

Advantage of the Golf highMPG ( I Do Alot Of Long Distance Driving)
Disadvantage Its A Diesel lol, Expencive (the spec i want is £25,000) Basic model is still £21,000

Advantage of the clio sporty, more fun, quicker. Cheaper to buy
disadvantage low MPG and french lol.

now without being bias lol what car would you go for?

(dno how you put poll up if some1 could do that for me )

I don't even think the 2.0TDI 170 is that good on fuel. I have the 2.0TDI 140 in my Jetta and I only average about 45mpg. And it's not that good in traffic. In fact on my way home today I only manage 37mpg.

clio definatly, the 10k or so you save makes the difference in petrol and would be a more fun car!

hi mate,

my wife has just brought a golf 2.0 GT TDI 140, with full leather good spec for £21,500. 09 plate,

and i have a clio 197 08 plate, if you do alot of miles i would go for the golf tbh, as we have just had 2 weeks off work and spent £254 on petrol for the 197 :dapprove:

the misses golf gets 50-60 mpg, and is a great car to drive tbh, ( torque is great ).

choice is yours fella.

TBH if you're doing 25k miles a year I'd go for the Golf.

Why buy brand new though? Surely it makes more sense to get one around a year old and save a fortune. Half of 25k is silly money for a Golf.

My dad's:

170BHP with a Bluefin, claims 210BHP.

He paid £19k for his new, managed to get £2k off the list price. He gets 45mpg doing a lot of motorway driving. It is a very nice cruiser and is pretty quick but my dad reckons it doesn't give you much feedback when pushing it round country roads.

The engine sounds like a tank too, not quiet whatsoever and also has a clutch, my dad finds it an effort to drive it smoothly!

Overall he claims to be happy with it but isn't in love with the car.

Anything else you need to know? What about a good spec 123D, that would be a good car.

For 23k+ I'd get an Audi A3 Sline diesel.

Pritty much as sporty as a 200, but with the MPG at around 50/60. Has recaro's in too I think.

25k on a Golf seems like madness, but it is your money. I would go for the Golf, but only because I have had a s**t clio that has fallen apart over the years and cost me more than I wanted from a first car. German build quality FTW.

Buy a megane, best of both worlds and you won't have the ugliest front ended car in the world!

The golf only seems to do 45 to the gallon anyway on the motorway, which isn't much better than most petrol's, whats the point?
