Been Quoted For Timing Belt On 172...

  RB 182
...by my mate whos just started up with another guy.

I work for Ford, but ive absolutely no spare time to attempt the belt change, so ive called in a few favours. 1stly i was quoted £150 by a friend of a friend, if i supplied the belt - no problem, i got the belt kit, and some other bits (bungs or summin) from Renault trade at £120 for the lot, but now my mates undercut my 1st quote and its booked in this week for £120 :rasp:

Cheap yes?

Ill see what he says after he's done it, and ill also get the name of his business for anyone else who wants any work doing! Hes a cracking tech, and they've so many mates who work for so many different marques that there probably nothing they wont do!

  MERCEDES CLS AMG
Change the auxilary belt and the tensioner as well - doing the cambelt on its own is no good. If the auxilary belt snaps it will fly in the path of the cambelt causing the cambelt to jump a few teeth on the pulley which will damage your engine. Same with the tensioner - if the plastic pulley collapses you will have the same problem. The timing belt kit will contain the plastic pulleys for the timing belt but it wont contain an aux belt + aux tensioner

Now you know why most places charge £300 - £350

He'll love the Clio 172 engine lets just hope he knows how to do it right as they can be messed up.

Does he have the locking tools? If so, its still a sod. There is a special tool which I didn't have, that allows you to un tension the aux belt. If you can get that, that would help a lot.

Special tool for the aux tensioner? Its just a 13mm spanner on the centre bolt of the tensioner to take the tension off the belt to remove it isn't it? Everything i've got say it is and it was the same on my 1.6 and the design looks the same.

Hmm strange will have to have a look at that all the docs i've got one it (renault ones too!) say its a normal spring loaded tensioner.

What do you need to untension it then?
