Belt Problem

  Clio MK3
Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with my Clio MK3 2006 1.4 with 79k on the clock, where it has this frustrating 'chirping' noise coming from the belt area. The car had a timing belt kit change before it was purchased, and recently I have also changed the belt changed to see if the noise would go along with the pulley? (things the belt spins on) greased up, and it did for around a week and it has recently come back? It is now to the point where I need some advice on what it could be before I ask a garage to have a look and possibly take me for a ride as a don't have the money to pay a large bill (being a student). It seems to be worse when the car has been sitting in the rain? I looked at my drains below the wipers and they seem to empty some water into the engine bay, is this normal and could this be causing the greese to be removed from the bearing or something? Here is a video demonstrating the water going into the engine bay - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQIVRThwvmw

Could anyone explain why it seems to be chirping more when its wet? Do you think the bearing might be getting old and need replacing on the pulleys so are chirping? I am going to ask a local mechanic what he thinks it could be as he thought changing the belt could fix it, but if he can't solve the issue are there any specialists who I could take it to around the Gatwick area? I am at a loose end with this as to what it could be, so any advice would be much appreciated! :approve:

P.s I don not know if this has anything to do with it, but sometimes when the engine is cold and I drive to the end of my road (100-200 yards), when i get their and change to first to join the road, the revs sometimes drop to around 200-300rpm and I have to give a little gas to stop it from stalling, but this is not a common issue that occurs, just thought I would add.

Thanks for reading,

Connor.

Apologies for bumping my own thread, but I was doing some research online about this issue, and I am wondering if the 1.4 MK3 engine requires specialist Renault locking tools to fully tighten it? The belt feels tight but I am wondering if the rain/water is acting as a lubricant and causing it to slip, leading to this chirping sound?

  Many.
Its been a good while since I looked at a Non sport. Does it have a manual or auto tensioner for the aux belt? If its a manual one, it probs needs a bit more tension on it, unless its already got too much that is!

I would imagine it is a manual one (I could be wrong)as when previous belt on it was very tight, and the replacement belt seems just right IMO, but it must be slipping. I can't figure out why the wet makes it worse.
