Best photo editor for mac

New apple user here, I've got a mid-top spec mac mini but I have no idea which is the good software.

Which is the best photo editor? Either free or cheap as it will only be used to pass some time

I've just downloaded that as you pressed 'post reply', I've got pixelmator on the iPad and I've just noticed they have a version for mac

I use it a fair bit for photoshopping cats into bonnets. Its great.
