best place to purchase pc components?

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT
evening!

someone at work has asked my to build them a custom spec PC.

Wondering if anyone can advise on the best/cheapest place to buy components from?

Might sound a daft question, but where/how do companies selling computers buy there components from to be able to sell a fully built pc for a reasonable price?

Just wouldnt mind making a quick £40/50 on it considering the effort im going to have to put in ordering the bits and building it, getting it running etc, but want to charge the bloke a reasonable price!

cheers

  ST on the way...
cclcomputers.co.uk and aria.co.uk are both good on price and service, used them both MANY times.

I use ebuyer, Novatech and Komplett.

ebuyer - cheap but have had problems with 1 item not being delivered and their customer service is a bit of a joke

Novatech - no problems with them, they are great but perhaps a little expensive

Komplett - only done two orders with them but they have been fine

Komplett - best customer service experience ever from them.

I bought 3 TFT's.. and one was faulty
So I sent it back but it got lost and they never received it..

I spoke to courier the lot and no one knew where it was..

Komplett said "ok, enough is enough" and sent me a new one and they chased the lost one from there..

Now thats quality! :)
Was a £275 monitor too, so not like, a CD-R or something, heheh.

Do NOT use www.overclockers.co.uk they are complete fucknuts! Try phoning the number listed on their website before ordering...

I ordered a CPU and a mobo from them 8 months ago, and they sent the incorrect versions of both items, tried calling them - the phone rings off the hook usually, but twice someone picked it up and hung up. They also seem to make a habit of answering emailed tickets in ridiculous timescales.

Never again am i setting foot on their URL.

Personally never has an issue with www.scan.co.uk or www.komplett.co.uk

used scan, tekheads, komplett, overclockers and ebuyer

^ in order of goodness,

( ebuyer totaly srcewed the delivery up once, took about a month to sort out!! but they are so cheap tho! )

re the comments about overclockers... never used them but they have a shop in stoke (staffordshire) so you can walk in and get what you want if you live local.

Used scan.co.uk quite a bit in the past, have a look on the 'today only' offers page, normally have some mobo/cpu specials.

ebuyer do bugger up orders.. the only time they messed mine up was in my favour ;-) i ordered 1 dvd writer. & i recieved 2 dvd writers, 200 dvd-r's & 100 cd-r's..
Never heard anything from then after that :) still using the dvd's now & sold the 2nd dvd writer.. nice
Other than that i've not had any other problems with them.

What about dabs.com never used them, could be worth a look?

Ive used overclockers quite a few times, last time i bought an item it turned up next day without problems, that evening i checked the site and what i had bought had gone down in price, i was like wtf cos it was like 50 quid cheaper, i emailed them and they got back to me next day saying that they will credit my account of the 50 quid, bloody result, sure any other company wouldnt do that!!!

komplett and novatech are both also very good used them on many occasions, never used ebuyer heared bad things.

peace

Cant beat Ebuyer in my opinion cheapest arround and ive ordered over £4,000 worth of stuff from them and only problem ive had was one faulty stick of ram which i had a replacement for within a week. usually get the super saver delivery which is supposed to take a week but its usually here within 3 days!

i higly recommend scan i thought i had a motherboard issue took it back to them as its only a 40 minute drive and i go to university near where it is anyways. They didnt bother checking it just went in and grabbed me a new one. took 5 minutes.

In the end though wasnt the motherboard that was the problem lol.
