better 0-60 time !?

  Renaultsport Clio 197
let's say my car does 0-60 in 6.9s (7s by my stopwatch :D)...
and let's say I get some very good induction kit, a sports cat, exhaust, maybe inlet manifold matching, and to finish it off a good remap.Everything except a turbo kit.
In the BEST case scenario I'll get...what..extra 10,15 maybe 20 bhp and better torque throughout the entire rev range.
Is there a chance that 0-60 time will be maybe 6,5... better/worse?

Bear in mind that the 197 has the already highly tuned 172 / 182 engine so I think you'd have to spunk a lot of money on it to get an extra 20brake.

Wait till the cars run in and then time yourself again!

172/182 can do 0-60 in 6.5 quite frequently I believe.

i know...
but k-tec says they duny-ed their exhaust and sports cat and it add 8 bhp and 10 NM..
a induction kit and a remap should give 10 bhp also...

will that take a few nanoseconds off my time?

anybody with a tuned 172 or 182 got better 0-60 times?

You only get barely discernable gains with re-maps and inlets in my experience. With the 197 being at the maximum feasible state of tune, In my opinion gains would be more disappointing.

As Rory says, to make a 197 faster you'll have to throw a shedload of geld at it.

let's say I have a " shedload of geld" to throw at it...
what do I do to it? and will that make it "faster" ? :)

turbo is out of the question...i want a "daily driver" not a race car.
and throttle bodies are not available yet and who knows when they will be.

just the above , induction kit, sportsc cat and exhaust, remap...

lol

Exhaust still has cats.. It still has an exhaust, it still has a paper air filter.. It is still designed to last 100000 miles and 16000 miles (I think?) without a service.

It's a production car mate, 98.5hp a litre is good. Not great.

I think it has gone beyond the maximum state of tune for that engine, in a Joe Bloggs out of the showroom non loud exhaust scenario.

How else do you explain its really poor fuel economy. I could'nt live with that, never mind its other shortcomings.

  221bhp/ton Mondial Terror
If the 197 went on a crash diet it could free up some bhp. Just hope with the 197 cup when it comes out they manage to strip some proper weight from it like they did with the 172 cup.

dont see the point in spending the cash required to save an extra second. not like u can seriously use that extra second on the road without risking a ticket.

  inferno rs 182
if you spent the money n ur "daily driver" mods as in induction kit, de-cat, exhaust etc. you aint gona shave 0.5 second of your 0-62, yeah you might gain X amount of bhp but that relative to the loss through you transmission etc.

your gearing has a lot to do with shaving seconds of ur time unless you whack a turbo or throttle bodies in the thing

  R35 GTR
strip the car of around 100kgs, not too difficult if you have a sub and spare wheel.lol. And you will notice the difference, but you will get used to it and want more power.

Can you do mine 2live?

set o cams n a remap...u shud piss it.

an easy enough job to do the cams, the amount most places charge for fitting is extortionate. do it yourself mate, save a lot of coin, and get more satisfaction out of it, spesh wen its quicker than most tuning co.s are producing at the time ;)

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
It takes 12.7% more power (or 12.7% less weight - about 157 kgs) to get from a 6.9 second 0-60 time down to a 6.5 second time. That amount of extra power is about what 172 and 182 owners have achieved with induction and exhaust improvements. It might be more difficult to get them on a 197 because Renault has already had to do a lot of those things to get the same engine to produce the extra 15-25 ps. But you at least have realistic expectations.

12.7% weight = 157kgs
100% weight = 1236kgs

Thats a lard assed driver then.;)
